About JD
JD is a really sweet dog who just loves to play with people or other dogs. He is so great with dogs that the pound he came from actually used him as their dog-testing dog! He's fairly large and boisterous so would do best with a dog that can match his size and energy. We would love to see JD in a home with another dog, but this is not essential provided he will be an integral part of your family.
- he doesn't mind being left alone where required and isn't destructive
- he loves people and is pretty good with children but given his size and energy over 5's recommended
- he loves adventures so if you're into hiking/camping/the great outdoors JD's your man!
- he is very food motivated so training is a cinch
- he can get very excited when seeing other dogs on the street so will need someone that will work on keeping him calm with these encounters to become 'neutral'
- he is a little scared of busy inner-city noises like loud trucks and motorbikes or cyclists/joggers/scooters that pass by him quickly and unexpectedly, so we'd prefer to see him in the outer suburbs if possible
- he is not tested with cats
- he entered care with a pretty severe skin condition that has improved immensely. See medical notes for further details.
Medical notes
JD has in the past tested positive for the MRSP bacteria. This can be managed very well luckily, by keeping his skin healthy and by limiting his scratching to prevent outbreaks and infections. He is currently on daily medication called Apoquel to control his itching. In his current healthy condition, his skin only has normal levels of bacteria and according to his vet is of no concern to humans or other dogs.
