About Gus
ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS: INDOORS ONLY -- NO CHILDREN, ADULTS ONLY -- TIMID CAT -- OTHER PETS CONSIDERED -- FIV +
Meet Augustine, August for short! August came to the RSPCA as a stray with a badly broken leg requiring amputation. He is now in great shape and gets around the house perfectly on three legs! August is a really affectionate guy that seems to have had a tough life so far and wasn't given a lot of reasons to trust people so he spent time in foster care learning that people mean pats and treats! When patted he purrs and leans in with great enthusiasm. He is still a bit nervous of being picked up but can be picked up for brief periods (picking him up to put him next to his food is a great way to teach him it means good things).
August takes a little time to trust new people but he is very food motivated and will happily (and gently) take treats and kibbles from your hand so this is an excellent way to earn his trust. He is gaining confidence and getting more cheeky so he does get underfoot a little and occasionally taps the back of your leg with his paw to remind you to kindly give him more food.
August is great with other cats and the small dogs in foster and has been playing, hanging out and sleeping next to the resident cat. Because August takes a bit of time to trust he would suit a home with one or two adult people. August has to be an indoor only cat from now on, as he is now a tri-pawd, and had also contracted FIV in his travels as a stray. August loves having cat trees around and hidey cat cubbies to hang out on and in. He does not quite understand toys at this stage, preferring to play with his cat friend when he is feeling frisky.
Because he is a timid dude, August really needs that special person or people that will take him where he is at, take the relationship slowly and put time into building his trust using lots of treats and kindness. Once he knows you are just there to give him pats he is super affectionate and happily rolls around purring. August just loves the idea of having his own forever home where he can spend his days relaxing, eating good food and being loved and cared for!
