About Dixie Cup
Gorgeous Dixie Cup is now seeking her forever home
She is a 11 week old Heeler x puppy currently weighing around 7 kilos so we feel she will only grow to a med size girl based on her age , breed and current weight
Itâs hard to imagine a more adorable puppy than the gorgeous Dixie Cup who has been blessed with all the best physical traits from the mix of breeds in her background. With her snowy white coat, bright and mischievous blue eyes, floppy ears and perpetually innocent expression, this girl would melt the hardest of hearts. Dixie Cup is like a little white piglet with lots of loose skin, and she is likely to grow into a medium-large sized dog. She has filled her foster familyâs hearts with love and joy and she is now ready to find her forever home with her perfect people. Dixie Cup will make the ideal pet for an active family ready to show her all the best that life has to offer.
SOCIALISATION
Dixie Cup has been fostered in a home with three large, boisterous resident dogs and also her female litter mate. Dixie Cup is very respectful of the bigger dogs and reads their body language well, but has grown in confidence with the friendliest of the three resident dogs. She has enjoyed jumping up at him, chewing on his ears, and short games of chasey before freaking out when she realises sheâs bitten off more than she can chew and then disappears under the bed or the bench to stop the game. In contrast, Dixie Cup and her litter mate have been robust and rowdy world champion wrestlers whilst theyâve been in care together - rolling and tumbling, growling and snapping, and generally having a great time exploring all corners of their foster home together. Dixie Cup can be hesitant in new situations and around new people but we have noticed her confidence is always boosted in the presence of other dogs. She therefore requires an older, puppy-friendly male dog in her new home who can continue to encourage Dixie Cupâs confidence and developing doggy manners. Dixie Cup has been in foster care with three cats and behaves well around them. She is generally disinterested in them, only giving them a passing sniff as they go by. Occasionally though she will get a little excited if they come too close and will run up to them to sniff them and paw at them. Resident cats who are confident around dogs will be able to put her in her place in no time. Dixie Cup has also been in care with children aged 10 years and older and has loved being in their company. She doesnât mind being picked up and carried around and loves being smothered in kisses and cuddles. She would make a lovely dog for a family with children aged 10 or older, provided that everyone understands that she is still a young puppy who will exhibit young puppy behaviour for several months to come whilst she continues her socialisation - this may include being mouthy with her sharp teeth, scratching, jumping up at legs and chewing on precious belongings. Any children in the home must be kind and respectful and must never be left alone with her, for the safety of all.
EXERCISE AND ENRICHMENT
As a young puppy, Dixie Cup has not been taken outside the boundary of her foster home and has not yet learned to wear a collar or walk on a lead. So far, she has been content exploring the garden with her litter mate and chewing on plants, chasing leaves and playing âhide and pounceâ among the shrubs. Just standing by and watching Dixie Cup play is a true joy, and is an excellent way to waste an hour or two instead of doing household chores! Dixie Cup is everything a puppy should be and just loves her toys - but if there are no toys to play with, she will happily find and chew on anything nearby that happens to take her fancy. This includes shoes, socks, electrical cords and furniture - her new owners therefore need to be prepared to âpuppy-proofâ their home to ensure she doesnât get herself into serious trouble. Dixie Cup is literally a âclean slateâ and apart from already knowing the âsitâcommand, she requires training from scratch - but she is smart and eager to learn and just LOVES treats so she will be very easy to train and will make her owners super proud of her in no time.
Dixie Cup is from a working dog background and as such, she is considered a âhigh energyâ dog. This means that as an adult dog, she will require a daily walk in rain, hail or shine, and cannot be left to languish in the backyard, even if her new home is on a large block. Please do not apply to adopt her if you cannot commit to ensuring Dixie Cupâs no physical and mental needs are met on a daily basis into the future.
TOILET TRAINING
Dixie Cup is NOT toilet trained and her new owners need to be prepared to work hard on this from the outset. As she gets older, she will be able to hold on for longer and longer, however at the moment she is a weeing and pooping machine and needs to be taken outside to the toilet as often as possible. Despite not being toilet trained, itâs worth noting that Dixie Cup has never had an accident overnight in her crate.
EATING AND SLEEPING
As a young puppy, Dixie Cup still needs plenty of sleep at night and a few naps during the day. Routine is also important for her as a puppy learning her place in the world. She currently sleeps in her crate overnight with her litter mate and they are both happy to go to bed in their crate without any crying or whining. They sleep from about 10pm to 7am and they have not had a toileting accident in their crate. Once up, they are taken to the toilet, have a play and then eat their breakfast. After breakfast, they continue playing for up to 30 minutes before being taken to the toilet and put back in their crate for a nap of to two hours (enough time for their carer to clean up whatever mess theyâve made during their awake time!). The rest of the day is spent playing inside and outside, and napping on their dog bed inside before settling down for the night in their crate. It is important for her adopting family to recognise that in her new home, Dixie Cup will be away from her litter mate for the first time. This will likely lead to some separation anxiety and possible crying at night as she settles into her new environment and new routine. Her new owners therefore need to be prepared to manage this typical puppy behaviour, which will of course pass with time, love and patience.
Dixie Cup currently eats twice a day. She eats puppy dry food soaked in a little water with a small amount of fresh meat scattered on top. It is recommended that puppies be fed on specialist puppy food for at least 12-18 months to ensure their growing bodies get all the nutrition they need.

CAR TRAVEL
Dixie Cup is obviously still too small to jump into or out of the car. However, she is happy to be lifted into the car and settles quickly onto the floor where she goes to sleep while she is being driven around. Dixie Cup shows no sign of being affected by travel sickness.
IDEAL HOME
Dixie Cup is an absolutely beautiful puppy who would make a perfect match for a wide variety of families. She must have an older, friendly male canine companion in her new home. It must also be recognised that she is an active, working dog breed, and as an adult, she will require a daily walk no matter the weather. She must be allowed to live both indoors and out, as a valuable member of her family. Dixie Cup is suitable for families with children aged 10 years and above, provided that children are kind and gentle.
