About Archer
Archer
https://www.instagram.com/reel/CjKxn5OjGQV/?igshid=ZjUwM2YwMzA3MA%3D%3D
- Lovely smoochy boy but a highly strung, nervous dog, with issues and fear-bite history.
- Not suited to: first time dog owners, or as a family dog, households with children of any age, or elderly people, or owners with generic experience.
- Needs an owner with broad rescue/rehab dog experience. Please provide as much detail as you can in your application. Applications that do not address this criteria cannot proceed.
-Best suited to a home with another dog to show him the way.
-Requires dedicated training. This means a consistent investment of time, effort and money.
-In foster care with Izzy, not quite a bonded pair, yet, but definitely partners in crime -(raiding the recycling bin and stealing the cat’s food).
Archer is a special needs boy, with a fine and complex intelligence that requires careful nurturing.
He spent his entire first year in a backyard on his own and with no one to help or guide him he made up his own rules along the way. He is making great strides but has a way to go in terms of adjusting to the big, bright world.
Without doubt, Archer is the softest, smoochiest, most loving dog we have ever known - and we have known a few. We snuggle with him on the sofa for hours. However, if a situation arises which frightens him enough, he will sometimes panic and react in fear, which may result in a spontaneous one off bite reaction to both humans or other dogs. He is very quiet inside the house and will sleep in his bed.
As soft and sweet as he is, Archer also has a certain aloof quality which can make him difficult to read. He can react to sudden movement and loud noises, etc, which requires careful prevention/correction from an owner with the requisite dog handling experience and behavioural management techniques to help him overcome his fears and learn better ways of response.
Archer walks well on the lead, he does not pull at all. He likes to sniff scents and rub his body against long grasses. He wears a muzzle at the park as he likes to nip dogs to get them to play with him. With a muzzle on he just runs and plays normally with other dogs by chasing with no physical contact.
Archer absolutely loves other dogs and after being so lonely for so long is now living in a busy household with five other dogs ranging in age from one through to 16. Archer would ideally be in a home with at least one other very playful dog of similar or bigger size, very well balanced, to help show him the way and also for him to rumble with as he would like to play all day long. He can push boundaries by asking other dogs to play inside when they clearly do not want to. Being firm and consistent with his training will help establish boundaries.
He was initially very interested in the resident cat, but has responded well to training and now ignores the cat
It is vital that Archer’s new owner is able to establish leadership with him and provide him with a safe, secure, structured relationship for him to develop and reach his full potential in. He needs someone to lift him out of the fog of panicking and not knowing what to do, into the security and confidence of knowing exactly how to behave. He is well mannered on a walk if you are vigilant to any triggers.
Broad rescue/rehab experience and/or breed knowledge will be greatly beneficial to Archer’s new owner, along with a solid foundation of training/behavioural awareness as Archer is not an everyday dog, or even an everyday rescue dog.
For someone with the appropriate knowledge and experience, Archer will not prove a difficult dog. He is the most willing-to-please and engaging student, as smart as a whip, and never forgets anything he learns. We think there is nothing Archer could not be taught, and quickly, too, with the right teacher. His intelligence and love of learning will make him a passion project for the right person and we have no doubt that in the right environment he will flourish and become a model of good behaviour.
Archer is not a family dog and is therefore not suitable to a home with children of any age.
Please read and re-read this bio in full before applying, and please do not be bewitched by Archer's beautiful blue eyes. We emphasise that Archer is a complicated dog and although there is no end to his potential, he needs an owner equipped to meet his complex and ongoing training needs. It is too easy to underestimate his requirements, and overestimate the ability to meet them.

Adoption details
Animals are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and on heartworm prevention / and also FIV tested for cats where possible. They are not available for adoption outside NSW (except ACT). Please email par.adoptions@gmail.com if you would like further information.
Dogs and cats are rehomed on two weeks trial to ensure that both the person adopting them and the rescuer are satisfied that the dog / cat / animal is happy and adapting well to their new home and this can be extended on request
Please be aware that Paws and Recover is run by volunteers who also work. We endeavour to answer enquires as quickly as possible. Some animals will inevitably be very popular and will generate many enquires. Where there is a high volume of enquires received, it will be our priority to contact those that best fit the requirements of the animal. This may mean that it is not possible for all enquires to be answered. Please keep an eye on the website for all updates.
Providing quality information as a part of your enquiry including information about your home environment, family, work hours, other pets and what you are looking for in a companion animal along with what you can offer one will greatly assist.
Please always provide a contact phone number as a part of your enquiry.
