About Candy
Looking for a special someone who will open their heart and home to this special little lady.
Candy is a 4 year and 10 month old Miniature Dachshund who has a few special needs - we ask that you read her bio IN FULL before applying.
This gorgeous lady has been observed in a foster carers home for some time, so we do know the requirements she needs in a future family to ensure she continues to thrive.
Candy has come into care with severe anxiety - as a result it will take her a few weeks to settle into her new home.
When Candy is stressed or anxious she will run away from her humans – she needs space and time to feel comfortable before approaching people.
She is very timid and does take a while to settle into her new surroundings and as such until she is comfortable with you and her home she will not come up for pats or cuddles.
Candy's new family / person will need to be prepared to give her the time and space to settle into her new environment.
Candy is looking for a home where someone is home more often than not, works from home or is a homebody.
When Candy does become comfy in her surroundings she will happily wander around and go outside and sunbake, or sleep near you if you are working from home. Candy does not do well with changes to her environment or routine and is not a dog that would enjoy long walks, the beach etc.
Candy has learnt sleeping on a couch or in a bed is quite a lovely feeling, so when she is settled, she would most likely want to continue this. We highly recommend stairs for her to access the bed, couch etc as her little legs and back are not made to jump or for steps.
We are still working on the toilet training and she does do her best to go outside.
Candy is dog friendly and we believe the key to her settling into any new home is having at least one more small breed dog for her to be with her to follow and learn from (please note she will not do well with a boisterous / in your face dog)
She has a very, healthy appetite and there does not seem to be a single food she will not happily eat.
She would prefer a home with children over the age of 13 as small children who run and scream and jump about can make her very anxious and she may withdraw.
Once Candy is comfortable and feeling secure in her home and she does come for pats and cuddles then you will be her best friend for life! She will happily follow you around wherever you go in the house or out in the yard (she is a shadow and her humans must be able to accept that).
Candy is an absolutely gorgeous lady but her anxiety must be understood, acknowledged and is part of who she is. She will need time, space and patience to settle into her new environment.
Please only apply if you are able to give her the time and space she needs and are willing to work with her to be the best version of herself just as she deserves.
** Please note applications will close Sunday 10th July 2022 at 5.30pm

Approved applicants will be contacted to arrange a time for a meet & greet via email. You must bring your current dog along to the meeting if you are meeting another dog/puppy, this is to ensure they get along before commencing adoption - proof of your dogs up-to-date vaccination is required before any meet and greet is arranged.
Our adoption fee must be cleared in our bank account before any animal is available for pick up. Please note we bank with ANZ - any other bank may take 48 hours to process the monies.
