About Nahla
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS BUT CAN ARRANGE TRANSPORT TO PERTH
NAME: Nahla
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: Ridgeback x Kelpie x Cattle Dog
BREED TRAITS:
Rhodesian Ridgeback - smart but stubborn with a dignified aloofness to strangers. Strong willed so would need an experienced owner. Sensitive and do not do well when left alone for long periods. Affectionate and gentle with family and will defend their home if necessary. If bored and lonely can be destructive or wander so strong, high fencing is needed. Not a dog for novice owners.
Kelpie - high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. Get bored easily if not worked, so training is a must. Very social with adults and children and other dogs.
Cattle Dog - Affectionate, devoted and protective of family but can be wary of strangers. Very, very high energy and highly intelligent - they love to have a job and if bored/not exercised enough can be destructive. Bred to herd by nipping so is mouthy and may nip cattle, children, pets, cars, anything that moves. They have a strong prey drive with other small animals unless reared with them. Not for novice owners.

ASSETS: A little shy and withdrawn initially, but once she's comfortable in your company she's easy going, affectionate, eager to please, friendly, sensitive, active, sweet and playful! She has a ton of love to give to her new family once she settles in with them.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Nahla loves to play with the other dog in her foster home and loves to run and play on the beach. She also loves her chew toys and is a complete cuddle monster with her people!
ENDEARING FEATURES: She's incredibly sweet and loving and adores cuddles and being close to you. She will stay close to and walk right behind her carer and is extremely loyal.
OTHER ANIMALS: She gets on well with other friendly dogs once she's comfortable with them and would love to live with one after gentle introduction - she is living with a resident female dog in foster and they are good friends. Due to her lack of early socialisation and confidence she doesn't like 'pushy' dogs who get up in her face and will growl and, if they persist, will possibly give a warning snap to protect her personal space. She shows a bit too much interest in cats and would probably chase so we won't home her with any small animals. She does live around chickens but needs to be supervised.
GENERAL INFO: Nahla walks nicely on the lead (most of the time!) and is housetrained. She barks when someone is at the door and is often scared of new things. With gentle training from loving owners who will work at continuing to socialise her, she is, and will continue to grow. She can be destructive when bored, favourite things to chew at the moment are shoes and outdoor furniture, so she will need lots of stimulating toys to keep her occupied if left alone for any period of time. Her command training is coming along in leaps and bounds and she knows lots of commands including, sit, down, stay and come. Nahla also has a dinky little tail that she was born with!
ESSENTIALS for Nahla:
** An active, loving and stable home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis (or can take her with them). She would love a youngish doggy friend to keep her company and play with. Due to her timid nature around new people she won't do well in a home with lots of people coming and going.
** An owner who will continue to train her and build on the great progress she has made in care - classes where she can socialize and learn new things would be of great benefit to her.
** Being an active girl, she needs good daily exercise and mental activity so an active home that is willing to involve her in family activities.
** Nahla needs a large. fenced, secure yard with grass or she could live on a rural property where she has supervision.
** Nahla loves to be with her people so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night.
Nahla could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 12yrs who can recognize her signals and give her space when needed - remembering that she needs to trust in her own time.
If Nahla sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
