Mr Bentley
An older and loving companion.
Bentley will need a home where gets to spend majority of his time indoors and is allowed to sleep inside. An adult only home and where he is the only pet will be best.
Bentley will take a liking to one particular person in the household and become their shadow. Where you go, he goes. He loves company and being really close to his person. He is a man of routine. Loves his morning cuddles, followed by morning walk, nap most of the day, have his dinner followed by cuddles on the couch and bedtime.
Bentley is toilet trained and will go outside if the door is left open for him, if not he will signal by spinning around and looking at you. He will not bark to let you know he needs to go and if you miss the signal he will let it out. Until he gets used to his new environment he may be unsure of where he is expected to go to the toilet so you will need to be patient with him and show him the way. He usually goes first thing in the morning and straight away after his dinner. His toileting routine is very predictable.
Bentley LOVES walks but is reactive on the lead when other dogs come past, he will run towards the dog and bark. When we go out and see another dog we will shorten the lead, stop and wait for them to pass (while he barks). Bentley thinks he is much bigger than he really is! Fluffy dogs seems to be the most triggering on his walks.
Bentley is good with dogs off lead once he knows he is safe. Once he meets a friends dog he will remember them and be perfectly fine every time they meet. It’s only strange dogs on the street that he is reactive with. If a younger dog tries to play with him too much he will snap at them as a warning to give him space. Bentley should not be taken off the lead in open spaces, he will run off and can not hear you calling him back as he appears to be almost fully deaf. For his age, he is a very fast little man. Only take him off lead in an enclosed space. He loves to have a run around and an adventure. A home with a yard where he can potter and sniff around will be great for Bentley.
Bentley does not like the vet. When he gets his ears checked we always have a nurse in as well to hold him with a towel and have treats on hand for him. He is very sensitive with his ears and also with his feet.
He loves cuddles and sitting on top of you and having rubs but is protective of his feet so be mindful to be gentle with him until you built up his trust.
He is such a loving dog and the best company to have.
Even though he is close to 14 he is full of beans in the morning and when you come home. He will get the zoomies, spin in circles and give you a million licks!!
Bentley gets groomed every couple of weeks but it takes hours and he does not like it very much and will snap at the handler when he has had enough. I would recommended maintaining him pretty regular so that he doesn’t need a really big groom as he really doesn’t like long periods of being groomed.
Bentley loves getting treats but he gets very eager so treats need to be held the right way so he doesn't snatch them from your fingers.
Medical notes
Medical notes-
When Bentley came to us from the pound we were told he had chronic ear issues. He has had a number of ear infections while he's been in our care which have been resolved with ear drops from the vet. Whoever adopts Bentley will need to be aware that he is prone to ear infections and they need to be checked regularly, he also needs to be monitored for ear scratching and head shaking which may indicate another infection coming on. He also licks his feet a lot and has needed cream from the vet on occasions. Given his age Bentley will need regular vet check ups to make sure any health issues are diagnosed and addressed as quickly as possible.
Adoption details
If you think one of our animals would be a good match for your home please email us and we will be in touch shortly after. We all work fulltime, have families and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require any other dogs in your home meeting our foster animal before they head home with you. This enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
All our animals are available for a two week trial with full refund. They are also covered by a lifetime return policy. If you ever find yourself unable to care for or keep your pet please contact us and they will come back into our care, this is a condition of our Adoptions.
