About Romeus
Romeus is a very special boy who needs very special people to call his forever home. He has been gifted with the most beautiful temperament a dog could have, but unfortunately has been dealt a terrible hand of medical issues.
Romeus came to us from a rural NSW pound where he was found as a stray. The pound noted he had a stiff hind leg so we got this investigated when he arrived. Unfortunately we found he has quite advanced arthritis in both stifles due to old cruciate ligament injuries. He also has mild hip dysplasia, although this doesn’t seem to bother him too much. During investigations the vet also found he has a heart murmur and a slightly enlarged heart. This is not affecting him at the moment, but he will likely need to go on daily medication as he ages.
Although Romeus has bad knees, he still gets around remarkably well and enjoys his daily walks and playtime. Treatment options for his knees will be discussed in detail with any prospective family, but to be up front, he is not going to be a cheap dog whether his new family decides to go down the surgery or conservative management route. We are looking for a family who have the financial means to provide Romeus with everything he needs to stay comfortable and happy for as long as possible. This includes daily joint supplements, good diet, pain relief as needed, arthritis injections, appropriate exercise and therapies such as hydrotherapy, laser and/or physio exercises.
What this boy lacks in health he makes up for in personality. He is just perfect. He is amazing around the house and spends his days lounging with his foster carers or having a play. Don’t think this boy is old and frail he still has quite a bit of go to him when he’s in the mood for a play! He is toilet trained and sleeps through the night in his crate. He isn’t a barker and has proved he is fine left home alone for a few hours at a time without issue. He is very affectionate and has been perfect with everyone he has met from kids to adults.
Out and about Romeus is a dream. He walks well on leash and is social with everyone he meets. He loves other dogs and plays nicely, although he can pull and be a little too excited when he sees a dog he wants to say hello to, but this is easily corrected. He is a smart boy and enjoys engaging with his people and loves some cuddles on the couch. Romeus travels well in the car and is just generally an easy going and beautifully natured dog.
We need to be quite picky about where Romeus spends his retirement days to ensure he is as happy and healthy as he can be for as long as possible. We feel he deserves a home where people are home most of the time so he can enjoy spending his days with his people and getting out and about for some fun. He loves sniffing and soaking up some rays so we would prefer a home with a garden, but will consider a unit for exceptional homes. Romeus needs a home where he will be allowed inside as part of the family and absolutely to sleep inside to keep him comfortable and warm.
He will be happy as an only dog in his forever home but we feel would also be happy to share his space as long as the other dog doesn’t jump all over him and want to play all the time as this will not be good for his joints. He is not cat tested. As mentioned above, he needs a very financially stable family who don’t mind throwing money towards their pets. We want to ensure he is provided with the best of everything as he is such a special dog. Although he is getting on in years and has some medical concerns, he is still quite active and playful and can be strong so is not suited to older people looking for a quiet retirement friend.
If you feel you have the ability to provide Romeus with everything he needs to stay happy and healthy he will repay you with so much love and fun! His foster carers say he is the best foster they have had so he must be special. Please fill out the adoption application form on our website as the next step in the adoption process and be sure to include extra information about the life you can provide our sweet boy Romeus.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
