About Joe
Joe, affectionately called Jojo by his foster carers is a VERY chill dog. His favourite past-time is napping. His energy extends to 5 mins of excitement when you arrive home to greet him, then he’s back on his bed resting his tired body from all the hours of exhausting sleep he’s had that day. Even on walks, he’s happy to just amble along and enjoy the walk without huge excitement; anything more than 1 or 2 kms is considered a hike for him.
Joe LOVES people! They are his favourite things in the entire world. He is happy to have another dog around and will be a little playful with them initially, but will ultimately gravitate back to the human for pats and affection.
Joe was BORN to be a pet and very happy his racing days are over. A leg injury finished his racing career but thankfully it doesn’t bother him in pet life.
In the home Joe has learnt the routines quickly. He is toilet trained and knows to wait by the door to be left out for a pee. He is respectful with food and doesn’t counter surf but may investigate what you have left unattended on the coffee table. He loves his humans and will confidently come up and insist on a pat, an ear scratch or tummy rum, whichever is your preference. One thing that has Jojo totally stumped is stairs - no way José, not doing those scary things.
Jojo is a people watcher. When given the opportunity, he waits at the front gate and watches people & their pets pass in hopes one of them stops to say hello and pat him. When he gets a pat, he strides back inside with his tail high and with a beaming smile as though to tell you proudly; “I got a pat !!” Even when inside, he sometimes sneaks onto the “people bed” to look out the front window to watch for people!
Jojo is your relaxed affectionate and polite boyo. He’d be happy to share his home with another suitable dog or be the only dog.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
