About Biggie ~ 4yr Old Pomeranian (On Trial 06/05/2022)
This handsome little ball of fluff is Biggie…… A 4yo male Pomeranian. He hasn’t been in care that long and we suspect that once word gets out, it won’t be long before we need to decide who his forever people will be. That said, Biggie did come to us with a pre-existing injury which needs to be considered first before falling under his cuteness spell.
Around three years ago, Biggie’s jaw was broken, and it never healed properly, so Biggie has a permanently broken jaw. It doesn’t stop him though and he isn’t in pain. We consulted our vets in the hope it could be reconstructed, but unfortunately, there isn’t enough “usable” jaw left to attempt anything. On the vet’s advice, we were told to leave it. There’s no infection and he has managed for three years with it, so he can live a regular life.
In terms of feeding him, Biggie has a go at most things provided it isn’t too big or too hard. He has dry dog food available to him and just mostly plays with it, at times eating the smaller pieces. He indulges on chicken & turkey mince, cooked and raw chicken & beef pieces, wet food and leftovers. He has come a long way since being in care. He likes to think he is king of the throne, especially around the other dogs, but he is learning not to be so bossy.
He is an energetic little boy who loves a drive in the car, going for walks and running around. He is quite bouncy and agile and isn’t a fan of little people or other dogs being in his face, so we recommend no children under 10 and dogs who don’t mind a play but know when enough is enough and are easy going. Biggie is also learning to become cat friendly, under strict supervision. He is a typical Pomeranian with Pomeranian attitude, so knowledge and experience with the breed will be helpful.
Biggie is primarily an inside dog who does enjoy a cuddle up on the lounge with you and taking over your bed at night. Toilet training is pretty much complete and successful. He also responds well to his name when called and general commands. He’s a happy little fellow, who just wants to enjoy your company, make you happy and share the rest of his life with you. On that note, Biggie would be suited to an active person or couple who will take him on their adventures and for regular walks. He would prefer to have his people home more often, especially if he is to be the only dog. He wouldn’t be opposed to caravanning life either. If there is another dog in the family, they would need to be calm and easy going and not an “in-your-face” type of dog. Biggie’s new owner/s would also need to be aware and mindful of his jaw and be prepared for any future vet visits that may result in medications or further attention.
As mentioned earlier, children under 10 won’t be suited to Biggie’s personality.
