About Afro
Afro is a sweet 10 year old man, who is looking for a family to spend his senior years with. Ideally, this would be a home where someone is home most of the time and Afro can spend his days getting pats, having naps, and going on short walks.
Afro is house trained and comfortable using a dog door. He likes to spend his days with people- especially on their lap or next to them, getting pats and napping. He doesn't ask for much more than some attention - he is not overly interested in toys or mental stimulation, but enjoys food and food based toys.
Afro has recently been to the vet for a teeth clean and treatment, and has a clean bill of health. However, as sometimes occurs among older terriers, Afro has limited hearing and may have limited vision in the coming years. This doesn't seem to bother him, but makes training a little harder as he is set in his ways.
He will follow you around the house, he likes to have people in eyesight given he can't really hear what's going on.
His foster carers report that Afro has been very well behaved. He does bark when left alone, but seems to settle quickly for a sleep. We think he would do well in a home where an adult is around most of the time. His foster carer was recovering from surgery and reported he was a perfect companion during this time. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night without a peep. In his old age, Afro needs indoor access at all times or he will bark if left outside while you are home.
Afro is used to being an only dog, and is to be homed with a family with no other animals.
He does not like cats and is not really a fan of other dogs either. Afro loves short walks where he can sniff the neighbourhood, and is well behaved on a lead. His foster carer has been walking him in areas with limited animals and has reported that he has been well behaved.
While fluffy, Afro doesn't get very dirty or moult a lot (and it would be less if professionally groomed every now and again). He doesn't mind being bathed and will wait patiently while being bathed and brushed. He also travels well in the car.
If you're looking for a cuddly companion animal, Afro might be the perfect gentleman dog for you.

** Only applications submitted via this link will be considered **
Our adoption process is as follows:
1) Animal is listed on PetRescue
2) Applications are received
3) The application which we feel offers the best-suited home to the pet is contacted for first preference of a meet and greet to see if they 'click' with the animal.
We do not follow a first-in, first-served process and only consider applications completed via our online form.
Due the popularity of some dogs - and the fact that our rescue is run entirely by volunteers - we cannot guarantee that all unsuccessful applicants will be notified, however we will do our best.
