About Sabian
Look at this face!!! Donât you just want to grab those big jowls and say âI luff you handsomeâ If so, read on and let us introduce you to the magnificent spunky boy Sabian! This two year old fella is 34 kilo Boxer X who thinks he is meant to be a lap dog. Our big boy is a gentle giant who will become your best mate. He has definitely won his foster carers hearts PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM AND JUNK FOLDERS FOR YOUR APPLICATION ONCE YOU HAVE SENT YOUR ENQUIRYWhen Sabian first came into our rescue he had been shown no attention or affection, was underweight with his ribs and hip bones showing but now with lots of high quality food and love he is a handsome strapping affectionate young lad. He also unfortunately came in a bit scared of the big wide world as we feel he wasnât socialised to many humans or other dogs. He has really blossomed in foster care and now is just a big happy smoochy poochy. His favourite pastime is spending time with his humans, cuddling on the couch or having a play outside chasing his favourite toys especially slobbery tennis balls or frisbees. If you let him, he will be your constant companion all day long looking at you with those big puppy eyes that you just canât resist.During the day Sabian is settled on his bed which is located outside, on the back deck (undercover) or will wander around the yard sniffing around for the daily news. More often than not, when we spy on him, he is sleeping on his bed. This could be because we keep him very active - walking him morning and night, A 45 minute to 1 hour walk every morning seems to help him settle for the rest of the day whilst we go to work (or work from home). When he came into our care there were concerns that he may try to dig his way out of the backyard but during the time heâs been with us we have not seen any signs of this at all and not a single sign of any destructive habits other than chewed tennis balls. He will go to the fence if he hears something of interest and let out a few barks but there have been no attempts to get out at all. He needs to have some outside time when his humans are home to get him comfortable with his own company. We feel once settled in a home he will be happy to snooze the day away on a comfy bed. Regardless, it is crucial that his new home has very secure fencing just in case. We feel he doesnât need a huge amount of space as long as he is exercised daily which is a must for anyone adopting him.He will always want to be inside with his human foster family but he spends time outside during the day so that he can get used to being on his own if his family works. He has learnt that he is safe and it's okay not to always be near his humans. In foster care he has been outside from 7am and let inside in the evening usually after dinner -Visitors - PeopleHe is cautious when meeting new people, may bark or grumble on a first meeting. No aggression just noisy saying âwho are you?ââ After a moment or two, he is happy to have a pat and is not bothered at all. With teenagers in the home, Sabian has now become used to people coming and going. All visitors know our big boy is a softy inside who is learning to be more sociable every day. Once he knows you and is comfortable with the person heâll try to get cuddles from them by leaning into them and waiting for a pat. Heâs a smoocher for sure. He has been exposed to some school aged children and has responded very well but we feel he is best suited to older children due to his size as he does have a tendency to just want to jump up for a cuddle or plop into your lap.. His foster family believe he has the special gift of being able to emotionally connect with his people. When walking Sabian, he can be uncertain of his surroundings so he has been walking in familiar areas and heâs now getting used to meeting the locals that he passes, sometimes he lets out a bark to say âhey who are you? As he is being walked twice a day now he is much less vocal. With time, continued exposure and socialisation you will be rewarded with a brilliantly behaved fella.Sabian loves his toys! When he first comes into the house after dinner, he grabs a toy from his bed and will play with it, sometimes looking at us to chase him or throw it to him. He loves to romp outside in the back yard with us, chasing his toys, doing zoomies and bounding around. He is happy with balls playing fetch or jumping for a frisbee. When playing with him you can just see the big smile, joy and happiness on his face as he interacts and plays with his people. We have used treats hidden in Kong toys too, to keep him entertained and mentally stimulated. This spunky boy would prefer to be by your side 24/7 but has learnt that itâs also okay to be outside during the day whilst his foster folks work or go to school. Heâs a quiet boy - doesnât whine or bark if left outside, however you may hear a knock on the back door as he lets you know that he wants to come in. This will only last for a moment or two and then he will lie on his bed outside. He is happy to relax and sleep off his walks and exercise routines. If you like to be kept fit then this fella is for you!He gets so excited when he hears the âWâ word and no matter where he is when he hears âwalkâ he will come running and sit like a good boy until his harness is on. He had the habit of excitedly chewing his lead too but we have stopped that lol. When Sabian first came into our care, he didnât seem to have had much socialisation with the big wide world including other dogs. At first he was overly excited and would come across as strong on the lead with some barking and reactivity when seeing a dog, even at a distance but now we have seen an excellent improvement in the short time he has been with us thanks to the dedication of his foster carers who have spent a lot of time exposing him, getting him ready for you. During his walks, he now tends to stop and watch when seeing other dogs walking past or playing. During his walks he is rewarded for his good behaviour with food.! We are so proud of this boy and how he really has come along in leaps and bounds. Big pat on the head for you Sab!!! Our successful adoptee will spend time with our foster carers and learn the techniques we have used to get our boy to where his is today. For his enjoyment on walks he is best walked in areas with fewer dogs and is not your dog park kind of boy.Oh boy! This fella is such a loyal, clever and brilliant young pooch. He is so smart and when he has your attention, he will listen and wait for your next command. He understands sit, heel, wait, drop, stay, share (when toys are involved) and also BED.We have been doing a lot of on lead training which has proven invaluable.InsideSabian has made some doggy friends, but he needs slow introductions to feel comfortable. For this reason, Sabian is best as the only dog in the home with continued attempts to increase his socialisation with other dogs in neutral territory at a slow pace. Sabian loves his sleep - whether on his bed, the floor or couch. During the day he can be found sleeping on his comfy bed outside and at night will sleep though be it on his bed or sometimes sneak onto the couch. Toilet Training, Hygiene. When inside he will let you know that he needs to go outside to the toilet by knocking on the back door.Ideal homeSabian will thrive with a family that understands the importance of regular exercise, training and socialisation. Some other must haves;Securely fenced, covered outdoor area, a space for running and playing. We feel he doesnât need a big yard if he walks daily.Commitment to lead training and dog socialisation.Minimum twice daily walks (one at least 45 mins)Mature kids - 10+ years old and olderUnderstanding that a dog his size requires a handler who is strong and experienced with larger dogsLastly, this fella has a lot of love to give and once he has settled into his new home, gaining trust, he will show you just how loyal, clever and what a big smoocher he
