About Jessie
Hi! I'm Jessie! I was a SAFE dog when I was younger, but I've come back through no fault of my own--my owner's circumstances changed and she couldn't keep me.
My carers summarised me as Energetic, Sweet, Attentive, and lacking in self confidence, but that doesn't quite capture the rough diamond that I really am. My previous owner didn't have a lot of time for me, but SAFE has me fostered with a proper dog trainer/behaviourist right now, and I'm blossoming under her care. I will take all the love you can lavish on me. I never tire of cuddles and pats, but I will go lay down if turn your back to me or hold up your hands. Anything less subtle and I'll continue to nudge you for more pats :) While I don't love being left alone, once I am alone I do settle and I'm not destructive.
I'm still young, and quite a high energy dog, so I need a lot of physical and mental stimulation. I'm very intelligent and inquisitive and ready to investigate anything new I come across. In the past I didn't receive much in the way of training, socialisation or boundary setting, and as a result I can still be anxious at times, and unsure how to respond while on lead, or around new people or other dogs. I like other dogs, but I get so excited on the lead I sometimes bark. I'd probably be best as the only dog in a home; while I will tolerate them in my space (when introduced correctly), I much prefer the company of humans. Because I'm still a bit of a jumper, a home without small children would probably be best.
SAFE recently did some initial 'cat testing' to see how I would respond. While they're not ready to mark me as 'good with cats' just yet,(I was curious but not aggressive), they believe that with a slow intro I could work in a home with cats. If you have a cat (or cats) SAFE is willing to offer a longer than normal 'trial period' to allow for this.
I'm looking for an owner that is willing to invest the time and energy I need to keep up my training and help me reach my full potential. That means basic training, lead work, clear boundaries and learning some doggy manners. Once I have the basics under my belt, I'd take to agility training like a real pro! I'm the perfect size too--not so small that you'll trip over me, but no so big that you can't pick me up. I'm food oriented, eager to please and eager to learn. Won't you teach me how to be the best dog I can be? See me on insta @halfway_2_home
