This is Avie - a confident, cuddly, gregarious and fun-loving puppy that likes nothing better than to play, run and snuggle up on the couch. She will sleep on your chest if you let her.
Avie has come a long way during her foster residency and has shown great aptitude in training, learning new skills and adapting to her new environment.
She’s a (30kg!) puppy, is still learning her manners and displays some of the usual puppy behaviours such as mouthing, jumping, back-chatting and trying to get your attention (read: occasional bored barking). She is toilet trained and will sit, lay down and stay on command when not overly distracted – skills she mastered in a very short time whilst in foster care.
She’s a big girl and has a tendency to try and dominate other dogs, particularly those that are smaller than her and aren’t as confident. She has also shown signs of resource protectiveness. Avie would be suitable as the only dog in the house or one with a large, young and confident dog that can manage her size and energy levels.
Avie can be very reactive to dogs and cats when on the lead but is responding to training. She is learning to walk on her new halti harness and is gradually improving. She does not appear to be suitable for a home with cats, although this hasn’t been tested.
Avie will need an owner that is willing to dedicate time and effort to continue her training, help her relax when on walks, and channel her intelligence and energy constructively. Experience and comfort with a dog her size will be vital (she is only going to grow bigger – approximately 76cm tall and over 47kg at maturity), which may make her unsuitable for a family with small children while she learns her manners. A yard with high fences is a must for this breed.
Avie will increase the levels of love and affection in your house to astronomical levels and it will be rewarding helping her reach her full potential!
