About Portia
Portia is a female black Labrador x Golden Retriever raised and trained in the Assistance Dogs Australia program. She is 11 months old, desexed and is looking for her forever home!
Portia is a lovable, friendly, and affectionate girl. She is a very playful, highly intelligent, confident pup who would require regular mental and physical stimulation. Portia thoroughly enjoys training and is highly food motivated. She would benefit from a home where this training can be continued to further build on and maintain her current skills.
Being an 11 month old puppy, Portia would require supervision while outdoors to prevent unwanted behaviours. While in the home Portia can be opportunistic around items, generally retrieving and returning them to her handler. This behaviour is manageable and able to be worked on with continued training and a neat and tidy home. Portia is crate trained and thoroughly enjoys spending time in her crate of a night and for short periods throughout the day.
All Assistance Dogs are accustomed to spending most of their time with humans so Portia’s ideal person or family would spend a lot of time at home with her.
Portia was raised with two other dogs and is very social. If there is another dog in the home she goes to, we would like Portia to meet them. Portia needs to be walked daily and would love to have a yard to play in.
Portia is unable to continue her journey towards becoming a working Assistance Dog due to medical reasons. She does have hip dysplasia and is currently taking a joint supplement. If you are interested in her I can provide more information on her condition and any treatment she may require in her future.
Vaccinations and parasite protection have been kept up to date. If you think Portia could be the right dog for you or you have any further questions, please email Mel at mwatson@assistancedogs.org.au so that I can pass on an application form for you to complete.
