About Lou
MEET LOU!
Lou is a medium haired black boy, he is fluffy and full of love, he has completed all vet work and ready for his special forever home.
We should start off by mentioning that Lou is FIV positive but please dont let this deter you! He is otherwise healthy and happy and can safely live with another cat as long as they are vaccinated against FIV. Lou contracted FIV as he was not cared for properly in his past home and was allowed to roam around all hours of the night which sadly lead to him contracting FIV.
*FIV FACT SHEET FOR YOUR INFORMATION*
FIV is a feline-only virus that cannot be transmitted to humans or dogs. Cats who test positive for FIV can live for many years without serious symptoms.
A positive FIV test result IS NOT a death sentence. We highly recommend you checking out this page and having a good read if you need to know more information regarding the FIV diagnosis https://www.alleycat.org/resources/feline-immunodeficiency-virus-fiv/#:~:text=Quick%20Facts%3A&text=FIV%20is%20a%20feline%2Donly,bite%20from%20an%20infected%20cat
ABOUT LOU - (Check out the 4 videos we have of Lou being his smoochy self!)
If you have made it this far and looked beyond his diagnosis, we thank you so much! Here's all about Lou.
Lou is a big happy kitty, he gets along great with dogs! He currently is in foster care with 2 labrador dogs that he likes and will snuggle up too so we are thinking an ideal home would be one with no other cats, but a dog friend! Preferably a dog that is used to cats and will happily cuddle up with Lou, when Lou is lonely during the day his foster dogs will come to him and he will offer them a smooch!
Lou will take some time to settle down and feel safe and relaxed again after being from pillar to post in his short life, but he is not afraid of strangers just wary of new environments! He will let you pick him up and pat him and will curl up next to you on the couch or even on your lap if you'll let him. Lou is a smoochy affectionate boy and is desperately looking for a human to love, he will make a wonderful companion! Lou has gorgeous long fur and will require regular brushing which is also a great way to bond with him.
* Lou is INDOOR ONLY for life, due to his FIV diagnosis Lou must never be allowed outside to roam around and potentially infect other cats (not to mention the dangers of the road etc) so he must be kept indoors only or allowed outside in a secure outdoor enclosure.
* When applying for Lou, please tell us about yourself and your home and why you think he is the purrfect fit for you! We pride ourselves on making the right match each time.
* We are here to support you the whole way through Lou's life in any way you may need.
Medical notes
Lou's FIV diagnosis just means that he must attend his annual vet visits for his vaccinations and health checks and any sign of illness such as sneezing, lethargy, discharge from eyes or nose etc must be noted and he should be taken to the vet before it has a chance to progress into something more serious. Many FIV+ cats go on to live long, full lives healthy with no obvious symptoms, Lou currently has no health concerns and we hope he continues to stay this way forever!
We highly recommend feeding Lou a premium quality diet to help keep him in good health, Royal Canin, Hills Science Diet, Blackhawk, Advance etc
Adoption details
Thank you for your interest in a rescue cat! They can make the most wonderful friends and family members.
Our rescue cats have varied histories and stories and as such they each require a different home environment, we ask prospective adopters a series of questions aimed at making the perfect match so please dont be offended when asked questions. We do not adopt to a first in first serve basis and only adopt to the most suitable home possible. If you are outside Ballarat we ask that you make time to have a 30 minute video-chat with us and the kitty you are interested in so we can get to know you a little better and you can see the kitty in its home environment before coming up to Ballarat to adopt, if you are local then we hold a meet and greet at the foster home of the kitty. We only offer video chats and meet and greets to the most suitable homes.
All of our cats at Cat Lovers Ballarat are rehomed as strictly INDOOR ONLY cats and we ask that all prospective adopters only apply if they are capable and comfortable with this.
Please have patience with us as we go through all applications and make our decisions to move onto phase 2 and offer meet and greets, this can take days and sometimes a week to go through, you will be contacted whether you are successful or not.
Thank you again for your interest in one of our rescue cats!
