About Basil
Basil is a confident gentleman and happy to accompany you on all your adventures and spend chill time at home.
Basil is also still a young fella so enjoys his longer walks and a bit of space at home to do his zoomies. He can get a bit tetchy in the afternoon when he knows its time for his walk. Otherwise he is generally happy at home snoozing. Basil is very happy with the hustle and bustle of inner city living. He loves the energy of the city and the potential to greet and nuzzle with as many new admirers as he can on his walks.
Basil walks well on lead but can pull a little at first with his enthusiasm. He loves his adventures in the car and easily jumps in and out.
In his foster home, Basil is very respectful and polite. He knows that human food is not his food. He understands basic cues that his foster carer has taught him.
Basil gets very excited with off-lead dogs running about him so dog parks are a place to avoid. He prefers polite on-lead dogs to meet on his walks.
Basil will entertain you with impressive burps after a satisfying dinner. He also loves throwing and chasing his toys up and down the stairs
At home Basil is a very snuggly best friend. He’d love to share the couch with you, particularly in the cooler months, saving energy bills by keeping each other warm.
Basil is your handsome salt and pepper hound with the most expressive face. He is up for any adventure in his new home.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
