About Missy
“ Don’t let my age fool you - I’m a sprightly girl who loves getting out & about and exploring the world.
I would prefer a home with older children or just adults who won’t leave me alone for more than 4 or 5 hours at a time and would love another small doggy companion who is friendly, mature & playful (just like me).
I’m not sure I could handle living in an apartment as I love pottering in the back garden, sniffing my way around the perimeter and looking after my toileting needs on the grass - I’m perfectly housetrained and am happy using a doggy door.
Cats are not my favourite animals but I currently live with 2 chickens that have the run of the garden & we get along just fine as long as they allow me to sniff their bottoms every day just so I can make sure that it’s the same 2 chickens that were there yesterday! I’m not worried by noisy things like vacuum cleaners, lawnmowers or thunderstorms.
If you adopt me you will have to allow me to occasionally cuddle on the couch with you and if I sometimes choose to sleep on your bed rather than mine, I will prefer to stay near your feet.
Overall I’m a chilled, sociable, happy & very well mannered lady but I will bark to let you know when there are other people or dogs around. I’m told that I walk well on lead but am not thrilled about going for drives in the car.
Here’s a few other random things about me: My coat doesn’t shed so you won’t have to constantly clean up after me - I just need to visit the groomer every few months so I don’t get too shaggy ; I don’t have a sweet tooth or go mad for doggy treats ; I love tummy rubs (who doesn’t?) and playing tug-of-war with people (and I have a favourite toy for this) ; Apart from my daily medication I am not a high-maintenance dog and don’t need constant attention from humans - I just like to be around you guys.
If you’ve read this far and are interested in adopting me, I would love to meet you & any doggy companions who live with you. “
Medical notes
Medical Notes for Missy
11 year old Missy came to us last year as a heart worm positive dog from a local shelter. She has been through the full heart worm treatment protocol and now has the all clear after her most recent blood test showed no sign of infestation.
During the time we’ve had Missy, we’ve discovered she has Cushings disease, but it is now well controlled with twice daily doses of Trilostane.
She also has some skin allergies as is common in this breed, and she responds well to Apoquel once daily.
Missy has had a dental with 9 extractions just last month. She is desexed, microchipped, up to date with C5 vaccination and ProHeart injection for 12 months protection against heart worm. She is also up to date with flea, tick and intestinal worm prevention.
Missy is a bit overweight at 8.8kg, so we would recommend that diet and exercise be part of her ongoing daily routine, as well as regular vet checks to keep an eye on the management of her Cushings disease and general health and well being.
Please be aware that Missy requires both Trilostane and Apoquel daily, and please consider the cost of these medications before applying. Apoquel is roughly $150 for a two month supply and Trilostane $240 for 200 days worth. This works out to around $23 a week.
