About Chief
Chiefs personality:
Chief is a sweet 2 year old kelpie cross. As with most Kelpie’s, he is a high energy dog that will need consistency and some training in his new home. Chief knows how to follow basic commands, but will often get quite over-excited and not concentrate! Gentle reminders to use manners are a must for Chief, and food helps too - he really loves to eat. Once he has settled down, his favourite thing to do is roll over on his back for a tummy rub. Chief is a sweet boy and loves to do zoomies – he is a little pocket rocket!
Chiefs ideal forever home:
Due to his tendency for over-excitement, Chief would suit a home without young children and would benefit from a quiet household where he can be the only dog in residence. He should have a large fenced property where he can run around and play to burn off some of that excess energy. He will need someone with patience who is dedicated in providing a consistent training regime to break him out of his bad habits. He has come a long way at the rescue with consistent commands and routine with our volunteers. We have not been able to test his social skills with the other dogs as yet, so we are unclear of how he will go with other animals. He is a smart boy, who with some love and a stable home, will make a great companion for someone.
Chiefs story:
Chief has had a rough start to his young life and has had two homes; in the first one he was allegedly abused, neglected and often left without food for long periods of time. He was rescued from there and his new family did the best they could for him, but unfortunately their living situation changed and he was surrendered to Sweet Pea Animal Rescue.
More about Chief:
Chief loves to play with toys – both in his enclosure and in the yard. In the yard he loves playing fetch and in his enclosure he likes to choose from a variety of toys and have a good chew. When he gets over-excited he can be a bit jumpy but will calm down and listen to commands once he has used up some energy. This is why it is so important for Chief to have a home with the right kind of mental stimulation to help him stay calm. Once he has settled, he is very sweet and loves a good scratch or tummy rub.
He needs someone who will take a chance on him and who can help him learn new habits. Every dog deserves a home and this little boy with a big personality is no exception.
If you would like to give Chief the chance to have a better life, please fill out the application form on our website.
Medical notes
Chief is microchipped, has been desexed, and is up to date with his vaccinations. He is also on a worm, flea and tick prevention schedule. At present we also have him on medication to help calm him and prevent anxiety.
