On Hold
About Bazza ~ 6yr Old Cattle Dog (On Hold 20/05/2022)
Meet Barry, Baz, Bazza……. A 6yo cattle dog x who is searching for his new home.
Baz, like most cattle dogs is a loyal boy once he gets to know you. He can be a little timid at
first, but if you give him time and allow him to come to you, you will see that he is a lovely boy. He has been around children, but again, like most cattle dogs he can be a bit nippy, so children over 10 are preferable. Baz is a very well-trained boy and once he settles into his new home, he is sure to show you how good he is.
He sleeps outside most nights, except for when it’s really cold or if it’s raining, but he is used to coming inside of an evening to be with you. Before he waltz’s on in, Baz knows to sit at the door first and wait until he is invited in. Once he is inside, you just need to say to him “On your bed/mat mate” and he will gladly take himself to his bed and enjoy the fact that he is inside with you, although, he won’t say no to a good cuddle on the lounge either. He is toilet trained and when he gets up and down from his mat, that’s his cue that he needs to go outside. When it is raining, he has been allowed to stay inside (night and day) and he has never been a problem. He isn’t a fan of thunderstorms, so will definitely need to be allowed inside on those occasions.
If it’s at night, Baz will sleep on his bed provided it’s next to yours. If it’s daytime and there’s a
storm and no one is home, having an enclosed, safe space for Baz to access is important.
Baz is an active boy, who likes his exercise. Chasing balls and swimming are his favourite
activities, but he doesn’t mind playing around with you either and has a bit of a cheeky side to him. He walks well on and off lead and will generally only pull if there is a dog behind a fence that he hears. He has also been trained to walk off lead, behind you and won’t get in front unless you “release” him. Riding in the back of the ute is also another favourite past time.
Baz has great recall and also knows sit, stay, wait, drop and talk. Baz loves his food and sometimes he thinks it’s the last supper and will scoff his food, but he will listen when you tell him to “sit” so he can catch a breath and will wait til you say “ok”. Carrots are his choice of treat, and he loves sardines mixed in with his breakfast.
Barry is a good guard dog and will bark (not excessively) if he senses something around his
house. He has been around other dogs of varying sizes and breeds all his life and if anything, he is rather submissive and timid around them, especially new dogs. He will usually run the other way if a new dog approaches, but we always recommend a meet with any potential new siblings.
