About Angus
Angus is an incredibly sensitive, sweet, and loving 5 year old Great Dane cross Bull Arab.
He’s the kind who needs a lot of patience and space as he warms up to you. No really, you must play super hard to get! Rushing the eye contact, moving towards him or God forbid doing the cardinal sin of sticking your hand out, you’ll give him a fright and he won’t want a bar of you. BUT gosh, is it worth being patient! Once he feels comfortable, which if done right only takes minutes, he's the smoochiest, softest, most loving big baby you'll ever meet. His eyes are incredibly soulful, they tell you exactly what he’s thinking and it’s not surprising he can be so emotionally in tune with his people. We’re looking for a human who can take the time to get in tune with Angus, find those spots he loves the scratches the most, and see his incredible personality.
You’ll know you’ve won his love when he brings his toy to show you and then goes zoomy about and play with it. He can be very silly with his funny quirks, but he is also cuddly and devoted. Angus cuddles by pressing the top of his head into your body and will even let out a big sigh or groan if it's a good cuddle. He’s quite chatty and if he’s in the mood will get quite the conversation going.
We’re looking for a home that is home most of the time as he’s used to his mum working from home and when left alone finds it hard to cope, although is not destructive. A couple of times he’s found an escape route to come look for his people. When he’s at home alone, he needs to be able to be inside where he’s safe and secure.
Angus has settled down a lot since his puppy days and only needs about a half hour walk each day but is happy to do a little more on a cool day or less on a warm day. He walks well on a lead however can occasionally get a fright so needs an attentive handler aware of the environment. He has spent time on property and absolutely loved it like a relaxation retreat. He has no interest in running away from his home but as mentioned, must be kept securely inside when left on his own.
Angus does get itchy skin and he will lick if it's irritating him. He has some basic meds that will settle it down when required. Sometimes he can have some extra sleep in his eyes. This is easily managed with over-the-counter antihistamines and is mainly around the change of season.
Angus knows his basics, he can sit, stand, stay, lay down, get on his bed, and will demand his dinner if it's 5:45 and you haven't gone to fetch his bowl yet.
Angus is totally untested with cats. He could join a home with an existing dog but not one that is ‘full on,’ rather one of a more easy-going mature or gentle nature.
Whilst settling Angus in with children in the household could be a big task, he adores the babies and gentle small children he knows and is incredibly gentle with and around them. So, visiting grand kids can be introduced under supervision and have the potential to become the best of friends.
All Angus needs is someone with room in their heart and time on their hands for the love of their life. He's the most precious dog.
