About Leo The Great
The beautiful Leo is now seeking his forever home.
He’s a 4-year-old Australian Shepherd who currently weighs about 25kgs.
Leo is a very handsome, intelligent and an active boy who can also be very cheeky.
He has developed into a beautiful sweetheart who loves people. He loves attention, hugs and belly rubs and learning new things everyday – new food, adventures and toys.
He is very active and full of energy, who loves to run around, play and carry his soft toys in his mouth. He also carries his bed blanket in his mouth after he gets up in the morning.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM AND JUNK FOLDERS FOR YOUR APPLICATION ONCE YOU HAVE SENT YOUR ENQUIRY
Leo comes with an adoption pack that includes Harness,Lead.Seatbelt safety and travel bowl
He gets quite excited when you come home and just wants to say “hello” to you. He will then find a toy to have in his mouth and carry around while you are settling in. He loves to play tug of war and run around with you.
He will follow you everywhere to be with you and see what you are up to.
Leo likes to have cuddles in the morning to start his day and probably put a smile on your face as well.
OBEDIENCE:
Leo is still learning basic obedience as it appears that he had not training previously. He is a smart boy who can sit, drop and shake hands. He is a quick learner and would greatly benefit from further basic obedience training.
I am currently using a slip chain and chain lead as he tends to jump around and try and bite the lead and slips his harnesses. With time, patience and training, I am sure he will be fine.
When he does go for a walk, he can pull a little bit from excitement at first, but then will settle and will walk nicely. Will tend to pull when he sees another dog. I am currently training him to wait when we get to a road which he is quickly learning.
Leo is an active dog who needs enrichment to keep him engaged and stimulated, so toys, a Kong, giggle ball (he loves to play with this on his own and with you for a game of soccer). He also loves to have you play tug of war. You can see the determination and enjoyment on his face.
Leo has now learnt how to use the doggy door from watching other friend’s dogs using it which is fantastic.
SLEEPING
Leo is sleeping inside at night. He goes to bed when I go to bed and sleeps mostly throughout the night. He will occasionally come and wake you if he needs to go out during the night. He goes out for a wee prior to going to his bed. He prefers that you go out with him. He is not sleeping on a dog bed as yet, but with encouragement, he may feel that he is allowed to do that.
SOCIALISATION
He is very playful, active and full of energy. He now loves to meet new people with a friendly greeting and loves to get pats from them. He will play with some dogs but can be selective and tends to round up little dogs. So based on this we are looking for a home that is an only dog home This is something that will need to be worked on. Daily walks are a must, and his forever home will need to be committed to walking him every day.
FOOD
Leo has been eating prime (turkey, snapper, chicken and dry food with Jalna Greek yoghurt mixed in (Lactose free), cooked sweet potato, pumpkin, which he seems to like. Leo loves raw bones and will tend to bury them in the backyard (no marrow bones), beef tendons, ducky jerky and pigs’ ears. He is not sure about some cooked vegetables - which seems foreign to him at the moment. He is being fed twice a day and he sits for his food. He likes you to be near him while he eats. If you move away – he will follow you. He will need access to water as he drinks a fair bit.
GROOMING:
Leo will need regular grooming to keep his coat looking good and to remove any mats and to check for any issues. His coat is very soft and beautiful to run your fingers through which he loves. He loves to get brushed and will lie there all day if he had the chance.
TRAVEL:
Leo is still getting used to the car. He is quiet in the back seat and seems a little nervous. He is strapped into his harness and seatbelt and there is a dog hammock in the back seat for him. When he settles in the car – he stares out of the window watching the world go by. I have also been putting a couple of his soft toys in the car with him to keep him occupied.
IDEAL HOME:
An ideal home for this gorgeous dude would be with a person or family that is regularly home and will include him in everyday activities. He likes to feel a part of the family unit and will snuggle on the couch while you are giving him belly rubs. Leo prefers to be inside with his humans and access to go outside as he chooses. He will need a large fenced in yard and daily walks to explore the neighbourhood. Leo is an amazing handsome boy who deserves lots of love and attention. He would be a joy to have a family to love him with lots of belly rubs and cuddles.
It would be beneficial for his new human / family to understand the breed and his requirements.
HYGIENE:
He is almost completely house trained, and he loves to be brushed. He likes to be brushed a few times a week. Leo has been groomed by a professional groomer. Was a bit nervous at the start but settled with time.
