About Floki
Floki is a three year old German Shepherd whose family surrendered him to a local shelter. Totally lost and confused this young boy shut down and hid in the back of the pound kennel.
Due to his shyness the animal shelter contacted us seeking our assistance to rescue this dear boy who was overwhelmed by being abandoned in a strange and confusing environment.
Floki means a “Leader” in the Norseman language.
Floki would need a home where he can connect with his family and show how much love he can give to his humans. He will time to gain his new families trust.
Floki being a young Shepherd is an active dog who will be suited to a home with either a single person or a couple that have experience with the German Shepherd breed and have the time and commitment for this young dog.
We want him to go to a home where he will be an integral family member. He is not suitable to go to a home with young children and as he has only lived on his own he prefers to be the only dog.
Floki has received one on one training with our Dog Trainer - Bear The Dog Behaviourist and is a treat to walk on lead and knows to sit before crossing roads without being told. He needs to go to a home with a family who have knowledge of the breed and have owned a German Shepherd or another large breed dog.
Floki can still get excited with other dogs which is an area where he requires ongoing training. He is able to follow commands such as sit, stay and come without a lead in familiar environments. He can wait for break commands before munching on much loved meals or snacks currently up to 5 minutes with ongoing improvement.
Once he warms to you all he wants are belly rubs and pats, and because of this he is very easy to groom and brush. When you are busy he is very happy on his own, sunbaking and napping. He will need something to chew on if his mind is not kept busy with stimulation or walks.
He is not good with cats or pocket pets.
Intelligence, loyalty, love and companionship is what Floki will give in abundance when he connects and builds that trust with his new owner.
If you understand the nature of the German Shepherd, have recently owned this breed, and are looking for a companion dog then please consider Floki.
If you think you can give me a new home please contact us by selecting "Enquire about Floki".
Medical notes
Floki is microchipped, vaccinated and desexed.
In his previous life, Floki has sustained and injury to his back which has caused nerve damage, which unfortunately results in minor urine incontinence. He has now been wearing "Belly Bands" when he is inside and is comfortable with them and recently had manipulation of his spine which has greatly improved his bladder incontinence.

Adoption details
We have an Adoptions Manager who screens all prospective candidates as to their suitability to adopt a German Shepherd Dog.
We try to contact every one by phone but if that isn't successful we will email our application form to you, which needs to be completed and returned, or you can call us back and we can chat and complete for you. We will also ask you to provide photos of your yard and fencing to enable us to see where the dog will be kept and that they have areas of shade and shelter.
All our dogs are ready to go to their new home, so when you enquire about a dog you must be in a position to take them into your home. We are unable to hold a dog while you fix your fences or go on holiday, etc.
The successful candidate who adopts one of our dogs is provided with an information kit, ongoing support, training and advice on all aspects of feeding, training and general assistance to ensure both the new owner and our rescued dog settle into their home.
