Thomas is a lovely older gentleman who is looking for a place where someone is home most of the time as he loves his human company and regular walks each day. Best suited to an only-dog home. He arrived in foster care as a rather frightened little man in very poor condition but has gained confidence very quickly. Food is his favourite thing and snoozing in the sunshine comes in as a close second.
Although Thomas was microchipped as a maltese some years and may be part maltese, he has the longer back of a skye terrier and some of their attributes.
Thomas has an excellent sense of smell but his sight is not as good as it used to be, nor his hearing. He would need to have indoor/outdoor access in his forever home however stairs would an issue. He is in the process of toilet training which is proving to be a slow process so this would need to be continued in his forever home but it has been harder for him to get the gist in an apartment. His little tongue hangs out of his mouth all the time which is absolutely adorable! This could be due to a neurological issue due to the fact that he did this before he had his teeth removed.
He gets along with most other dogs and perhaps with a tranquil cat. Birds also do not bother him in the slightest. He cannot go off-lead as he doesn't any hope of recall due to lack of hearing. Thomas is a most lovable and quiet little man that doesn't bark so if you're after a good guard dog, keep looking! But if you want a sweet older guy who just wants to love you Thomas is the man.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
Medical notes
Weight 7kg
Thomas is booked in to see a specialist and most likely will have an operation to fix a problem at his rear end.
He is going to Melb Eye Vet to have his eyes checked out for his sight. Thomas has had a very tough life indeed in the past.
Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
