Rocking a very short crew cut, CosMento is a girl full or energy. CosMento is 1 years old and loves playing with pull ropes, balls, disembowelling soft toys and going on walks. She’s cute and cuddly and loads of fun to be with. She loves water and spends lots of time around the garden pond trying to catch fish. But with all the fun and frivolity, CosMento comes with a few challenges.

CosMento is a nervous girl and she hates to be surprised. She shows signs of anxiety if people approach her too quickly or unexpectantly. When she is surprised or nervous, she can bare her teeth and growl. Her new home would need to be a calm environment, with a predictable routine.

CosMento can get highly excitable around small children and can inappropriately fixate on them and try to dominate them by jumping and pushing them. CosMento thinks that this is a game of sorts and doesn’t know when to stop. During this time of excitability, she is difficult to recall. CosMento is therefore not suitable for families with primary school age children or younger.

CosMento has been in foster care for 6 weeks. During this time she has learnt to sit, use the dog door, to lay down calmly for food and has gained lots of confidence. She can take time to train, but with the guidance of an older resident dog, CosMento has improved in leaps and bounds. It is desirable if her new family has another dog that CosMento could follow and learn from. This dog would need to be calm, social and confident but also tolerant of young excitable play.

CosMento’s new family have to be confident dog owners. They would need to continue to manage her anxiety through positive reinforcement and assertive leadership. This would ensure that previous poor behaviour does not creep back into her psyche. Resource guarding was an issue in the past, however during the last 4 weeks in care CosMento has not shown any signs of this.

CosMento happily sleeps all through the night at the foot of her foster carers bed. CosMento is a very social girl. She loves playing with dogs (and cats!) and loves to meet them on her walks. Her new home would need to ensure that CosMento’s social needs will be met.
With a little time and some patience, CosMento will make a beautiful fun loving companion. She sure is one in a million!
