About Jack
G'Day everyone! I'm Jack, a 7 year old Kelpie/Border Collie cross with a big heart and courageous spirit. My foster mum calls me Gentleman Jack 'cause she says I have perfect manners and a quiet, gentle nature. And who could resist my charming good looks!
I was raised on 300 acres and would prefer space to stretch my legs but for the interim, I have adapted well at my foster mum's suburban block and watch the world go by, as long as I get out and about for a long walk every day to sniff and explore. The best part is a quick dip at the beach, in the lake or even in a mud puddle which helps me cool off and then I don't ask for much more than that.
Throughout the day I like playing with my foster fur brother outside and we get along well.
Training times are also great fun (especially the treats!!) and I'm happy to chill in between activities. I spend time inside as well and keep the place spick and span. I wouldn’t dream of leaving any accidents on the floor. A late afternoon walk settles me for my night time sleep in my cosy crate which is under-cover outside, and you don't hear a peep out of me. I especially like to curl up and snuggle in my crate when it's raining cats and dogs. (Excuse the pun)
I suppose you could describe me as having an independent spirit but that doesn't mean I don't need love and attention. I'm just pretty easy going and my favourite things are pats, belly rubs, walks (I'm perfect on leash by the way), and a good rub down and brush afterwards. I'm happy playing with kids and I also love to get out and about in the car discovering new adventures.
My least favourite things are sudden, loud noises which tend to startle me, and I also feel a little anxious when surrounded by too many other dogs all at once. (I survived a very scary attack by a pack of wild dogs a couple of years back). I can seem timid at first until I get to know you, then it's all smiles, excited tail wagging and adoring eyes.
Let me just say straight off that I'm very smart and learn quickly. Can't say the same for my foster mum though. Although she loves me, she's not the smartest sheep in the paddock that's for sure (don't tell her I said so). She was slow to figure out the commands I'm familiar with and I look at her sometimes as if she's speaking a foreign language. Ok, I'll admit she was spot on with basic commands like Sit, Stay, Shake, Bed and No, but that doesn't take an Einstein to figure out does it. To give her credit, she has shown me a couple of new things like "Stop" and "Go Find" which is a fun game with treats. I have also learnt to sit and stay before dinner is served. But I am capable of so much more and I'm just waiting for that special savvy someone to unlock my potential and bring out the best in me.
I just wanted to let you know that I've been through a sad event recently, and adjusting to a whole new way of life can be hard. But I know there are better days ahead and it's time for my bright light to shine again. Ok, that's enough about me - now let's talk about you - my special someone out there.
My only request is that you show me lots of love, understanding and patience, and a commitment to my needs as an intelligent working breed. Mental stimulation and physical activity means a happy, contented friend for life and in return, I can promise you total loyalty and lots of fun times together.
I can't wait to meet my forever family, and until then I wish you lots of yummy treats and smooches.
Jack xxoo
