About Crowley
Hi Friends, I'm Crowley, the King of Shepherds at Animal Welfare League NSW.
Why do I have this nickname? I'm glad you asked. I'm stunning and regal, I'm precious yet powerful, and prefer my people the perfect balance of nurturing and encouraging.
You see, I work best with humans whom I can create a deep relationship and bond with. Mutual respect is my jam and I won't have it any other way. I've been very lucky to claim a huge inside room as my kennel, and I lap up the attention every day from one of the staff members who shares my kennel with me, she's my work mum.
But while I love her and she loves me, the truth is we both know I can never be the best boy I know I can be in the shelter, because a shelter is not a home.
Every day I wait and hope that someone will notice my potential, take a chance on me and give me the opportunity to be part of a family again.
I'm not perfect, I know that, but I am perfect for someone. I like pretty much all people after getting to know them, but I'm a big strong boy so it's important I meet all of those who will inhabit my new household. Right now, it's best I go to an adult-only household.
I'm not a huge fan of other dogs but I'm working on this, someone who can continue my training would be best for me please. It's also necessary for me to be the only animal in the household.
I've heard my carers go on about 'Shepherd people' and they say I'm best going with a home whose owned Shepherds before. Ideally my new home would be where I can run free all day on 10,000 acres chasing butterflies, but I've heard how bad the real estate prices are in Sydney, so I guess I'll settle for a backyard that I can claim as my own. No neighbouring dogs would be a huge win.
I love tug toys and games, and also really enjoy my time inside contributing to family life (I'm a secret snuggler). I enjoy treats and pats and can focus on training when I'm in a safe space. I've been used to enrichment like Kongs and Lickimat, and if this could continue in my home I'd be delighted. I quite like going for a walk where I can sniff my surroundings, but I'm not a fan of running into dogs or other animals so a proactive handler is important.
I'm a great candidate for sniffing games, so if you're into Noseworks, I'm your guy!
I know there is someone or a couple out there for me, that can give me the home of my dreams. If I sound like the kind of King you need in your life, have your people call my people and we'll set something up." - Crowley
