About Winnie
Hello there! I'm Winnie and I come as a pair with my lifelong friend, Bella, who I am very attached to.
We are both 8 years old, which earns us granny status in the guinea pig world. This means we're snoozers, so you'll usually find us all curled up and happily asleep. Besides sleeping, we also spend our days relaxing in the cage together. We frequently enjoy running and chasing each other around, which gets the old body moving, and keeps us both feeling young!
Bella and I are both, by nature, quite independent ladies so we are content just keeping to ourselves. But we do also enjoy the company of our people. So, from time to time, we like to come up and say hello (it's just good manners isn't it!). Out of the two of us, I have more of the nerves, so being held by strangers can be a startling experience at first.
We haven't been around children or other animals, but as guinea pigs, we are typically quite the friendly type so it shouldn't be an issue. We just ask that if you do have other animals, that we are placed in a separate and secure location in your home.
So, if you are open to welcoming two furry seniors into your family and providing a warm home for us to live out the rest of our days, please apply to adopt!
Just like all guinea pigs I love to bury myself under leaves and vegetation. I love tunnels too. I eat a variety of foods - I'm still trying to decide on my favourites but fresh greens every day are a must. We need to be fed twice a day and our diet also includes hay, pellets and washed fruit and veges.
We're a bit more heat tolerant than rabbits. At the moment, in the heat of the Pilbara, I go into a safe outdoor cage in the late afternoons with leaves to play and burrow in. During the day I am inside the house where it's cooler.
What else will I need to be happy? A gnawing block, a brush once or twice a week, fresh water in a metal spouted drip bottle and my own sleeping area - with a cover on top. Guinea pigs need their home cleaned every day and their bedding changed every week. We can live for up to ten years. And we make great pets for gentle children.
I CAN FLY TO PERTH!
Flying for a few hours is very important for animals in remote locations because it gives us the opportunity to be adopted. Talk to SAFE about flying me to you in Perth.
6 GREAT REASONS TO ADOPT FROM SAFE:
