About AJ - 3 Year Old Boxer X (Trial)
Introducing the adorable AJ, a 3 year old Boxer X (possibly Cattle x Staffy) with incredible colouring.
AJ LOVES people and he isn’t shy about showing it - he is the most affectionate doggo you’ll ever have the pleasure to meet; a real sook. When you come home, beware the boundless excitement and shower of kisses waiting for you upon your return! If he feels he isn’t getting enough of your attention he will politely nudge you for strokes. More strokes. More please. More…
AJ likes to know where his humans are and will make a concerted effort to be your shadow. Although he’s a Velcro dog who loves a belly rub (check out his videos!) AJ can also entertain himself throwing around his favourite toys and exploring the yard. He thinks he’s a lap dog and loves it if you’ll sit cross legged on the floor so he can curl up in your lap. He sleeps inside on his own cosy bed close to his carers room so he can wake them early with kisses.
He is a bit of a superstar at his local cafe, which he likes to visit daily for treats and to say hello to the staff, who love him and have taught him how to shake paws for treats. He is also very partial to a brewery trip where he can make friends with the customers (again, see his videos), and has a newfound passion for camping. He loves to tire himself out by chasing bigger dogs around the dog park, but comes back to his humans frequently to check everything is ok.
One of AJ’s favourite games is to play hide and seek / chase with his foster carers around the house. He also likes to leap off a large rock in his foster carer’s garden, and to use it as a slide! He still has a lovely playful puppy streak in him and likes to play tug or fetch in the living room, but shows little interest in balls when outside as there are far more interesting things to see and smell! Whilst he enjoys the occasional zoomies in the garden, he much prefers to be out for a walk or snuggled up near to wherever his humans are. He would therefore be ok with a smaller yard so long as he is taken for a good walk every day, but due to his inquisitive nature in passing neighbours / animals and his ability to leap quite high, solid fencing is required (no wire fencing please). He is a very brave boy, not at all bothered by noisy traffic, trains or thunder - he will even join you on the balcony to watch lightning during a storm.
Since coming into care, AJ has learnt how it feels to be loved and is feeling safe and secure. He is not possessive with food or toys, allowing you to take either from him, and never begs for food when his humans are eating. He has also gained confidence and learnt not to be scared of other dogs, and now enjoys saying hello when at the cafe, brewery, or dog park. He can occasionally be a bit selective when making friends and prefers the company of larger dogs who can match his boisterous play style.
AJ is fully toilet trained, and has good basic commands and polite manners. He loves his walks and his preferred pace can be quite fast, meaning he can sometimes have a tendency to pull on the lead, but has become much better since coming into care. He would love to be taken out by a runner or fast walker. He will benefit from ongoing training but has come on leaps and bounds since coming into care and is a very well behaved doggo.
AJ has only recently started to socialise with other dogs and his forever family will need to spend time continuing his training in this area. With a slow introduction, he may enjoy the company of another large dog in the household, however he has not lived with another dog whilst in care and does like the attention of humans more than dogs. He is not cat or pocket pet tested, so no other pets please. He is very good with children but like any dog can become excited or overwhelmed if a child is too excitable. We would therefore recommend no children under 16 years in his new home.
AJ’s forever family will need to have an active lifestyle and take AJ out every day as he gets restless without a good walk or two. He can be quite self sufficient when left alone for short periods, however he does like to find your shoes or other belongings to keep him company whilst you are out! Being such a sociable and affectionate dog, he isn’t suited to full time workers or being an outside only dog.
