River

River is a happy, affectionate, cheeky 1 year old Staffy with a chunky build and weighing around 30 kilos

River is full of love to give, she adores both adults and kids.She loves playing with her foster children (3-12 yo), and adores doggie play dates with the neighbours. If you have children they need to be aware dogs need space and have boundaries too. River enjoys playing with the kids in the backyard chasing the ball or jumping on the trampoline
Roughhousing is a particular favourite if she finds another big dog to play with, she loved a good game of chase and wrestle so she would do well with another male dog of similar size
River has been comfortable as an outside dog during her stay at her foster home. She is quiet when she is left outside and will entertain herself with a ball or toy. She’ll bark at a passing dog/person, but does not whine or bark for prolonged periods. She’ll always try to make a break to get inside so she would love to have a family which will allow her inside. as she does as she does enjoy the company of her humans.

Obedience and Training
River still requires some ongoing training as most young pups do. She knows “sit” but is sometimes too excited to respond. Stay, drop, come and give are still work in progress so ongoing training is important.
River is a high-5 kind of girl and a kisser. I think she is keen to learn to waltz, as she puts her paws on your chest. If she is to be rehomed with children you need to be aware she can be a bit boisterous due to her size.
River has potential to be a great obedient girl with effort on your part. She is not particularly motivated by food, but does want to please and loves positive feedback and a rub or scratch.
River is still being a pup. likes to exercise her jaw on things left around so needs lots of toys or chews as a distraction. (fortunately not her bedding as this is still intact).
When walking River is keen to get up and go, you need to be alert all of the time, as she can pull you strongly. A gentle leader harness would be ideal to have more control. . She has been out jogging and seems to enjoy the faster pace so could make a good companion for short runs. She rarely poops on a walk. She has had some off lead time and has shown great recall
She loves to fetch, and even more loves a game of chasey as she has not yet learnt to bring the toy to you.
Socialisation
River loves her walks. She is energetic and can be strong on the lead at times when she sees dogs or people only because she wants to say 'Hi' so a no pull harness is a great way to walk her.
River has been friendly to the dogs she has met and shown no signs of aggression
River loves people and animals. She wants to cuddle, play and roll with them. Such a happy easy going girl with so much love to give.
Very loving with kids, but kids need to be able to deflect jumping and face licking, kids over 10 would be ideal
River is not food or toy aggressive.
River is relaxed about loud noises, though she hasn't been tested with thunder.
Sleep habits
River spends a lot of the day sleeping. She has a green blanket that she snuggles with during her rest periods
She doesn’t cry before bed, she sleeps soundly all night and rarely barks
Toileting
As she doesn’t spend much time inside we are unsure if she is fully toilet trained but the times she has been inside post desexing she didn't have any accidents. She also poos in a discrete corner of the garden so seems to have good toilet habits so far
Food and nutrition
River is in fine condition. She has about 300 g of high quality meat roll in the evening, and 2 cups of pellets a day. The pellets usually sit around for most of the day and she will graze when hungry
River is really gentle when taking a treat…I think she likes the attention the most.
Hygiene
River has a low maintenance coat. She loves a brush. I’d bath her once a month (scoop warm water on her) as she is not a fan of water. She is easy to maintain
Car Travel
River enjoys her car rides. She needs to be restrained in the car for her safety. Happy to get in and out of the car
Ideal home
River likes a good sleep during the day and a big sleep at night. The rest of the time she’d love a human (young or old) or dog to play with. She’s content with a minimum of two 20 min walks a day. She loves rough play with another dog, so it would be nice for her to have doggie play dates with another big dog
Adoption Criteria
A home with a nice size secure yard with plenty of shade and shelter
A home with another dog would be great as River loves other dogs but we would be seeking a well socialized male of similar play style and who is very dog social
A home with children are fine too but we would be seeking mature children with dog experience
A home that will walk her daily being mindful she can be very strong on lead when she first sets out
A home that are willing to love River and treat her like a member of the family
