Meet Blaze – 10-month-old Maltese cross male
Blazey boy is a beautiful sweetheart who just wants your love and cuddles. Blaze is a gentle puppy with a lovely nature.
Blaze is a bit different however, Blaze was born with a neurological condition called cerebellar hypoplasia. This means that Blaze’s cerebellum of the brain didn’t develop properly. The cerebellum controls fine motor skills, balance, and coordination. This means that Blaze is wobbly on his feet and can often fall over. Blaze is not in any pain and can live a happy full life.
Blaze is turning into a playful pup. Blaze has started showing his playful side by playing with teddies and balls. Blaze loves puppy bones to chew. Blaze loves to cuddle and sit in your lap. Blaze is a very happy and independent dog. Blaze is very attached to his foster mum - being her shadow. Blaze may need some time to adjust once in his new furever home.
Blaze is also loving his little walks as he gets very excited when he sees his harness. Blaze walks well on the lead. The walks need to be short, slow and patient. Due to Blaze’s condition, he does walk into you and in front of you. Blaze also really enjoys off leash time at fenced ovals or parks.
Blaze will need a home that has no to very limited steps or stairs, however Blaze is very independent and confident regardless of his condition. Blaze will need a home with no little children, older children who understand and can be gentle with Blaze would be better suited. Blaze would love a home where he is not left alone too much so he doesn’t get lonely and/or stressed. Blaze does howl sometimes when left alone (without his foster brothers).
Blaze will need to be in a home where he is allowed to be an inside dog, on the couch with you and sleep in the bedroom/bed as he feels secure knowing he is close.
Blaze will need to be with someone who is patient, gentle and loving. Blaze is small dog friendly and enjoys playing with other small dogs who are not boisterous. Blaze is in care with two small dogs and loves them very much. Due to Blaze's condition (being wobbly and falling over) when he gets excited during play with his foster brothers he can often accidentally fall on them or jump on them. Blaze will need to have another small dog sibling that is understanding of how Blaze is.
Blaze can get scared easily as his spatial awareness is not great due to his condition. Blaze sometimes does not like to be picked up and needs to be secure in your arms when picked up to feel safe. Blaze does still wee a little when excited or scared. Blaze does bark when unsure. Blaze is doing well with being introduced to new people.
Blaze is doing well with toilet training and will go outdoors however sometimes accidents still do occur. Blaze will go on a puppy pad if provided indoors. However Blaze is starting to cry at the door to let foster mum know he needs to go outside to go to the toilet. Due to Blaze’s condition, he does wee on his two front paws and needs them wiped often.
