About Maximillian
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Maximillian - 'Max'
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound with his two siblings.
BREED: Ridgeback x Kelpie x Cattle Dog
BREED TRAITS:
Rhodesian Ridgeback - smart but stubborn with a dignified aloofness to strangers. Strong willed so would need an experienced owner. Sensitive and do not do well when left alone for long periods. Affectionate and gentle with family and will defend their home if necessary. If bored and lonely can be destructive or wander so strong, high fencing is needed. Not a dog for novice owners.
Kelpie - high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. Get bored easily if not worked, so training is a must. Very social with adults and children and other dogs.
Cattle Dog - Affectionate, devoted and protective of family but can be wary of strangers. Very, very high energy and highly intelligent - they love to have a job and if bored/not exercised enough can be destructive. Bred to herd by nipping so is mouthy and may nip cattle, children, pets, cars, anything that moves. They have a strong prey drive with other small animals unless reared with them. Not for novice owners.
ASSETS: A little shy and unsure initially, but once he's comfortable in your company he's easy going, affectionate, eager to please, friendly, obedient, sensitive, active, sweet and playful! He has a ton of love to give to his new family once he settles in with them.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Maximillian loves to spend time at the beach and enjoys playing with other dogs. He likes to rough and tumble and play tug of war. He'll then curl up with you for a cuddle and snooze! He's definitely a 'people' dog and is very loyal and devoted.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He has a loving, friendly nature and is definitely a little goofy at times!
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other friendly dogs once he's comfortable with them so he could live with one after gentle introduction. He's not been tested with cats so we'd prefer a no-cat home for him.
GENERAL INFO: Maximillian needs some training on the lead as he tugs at present. He is attending Dog Club and is making great progress. He is housetrained and rarely barks. His command training is coming along in leaps and bounds and he's a bright boy and quick learner so training should be a breeze for him.
ESSENTIALS for Maximillian:
** An active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis (or can take him with them) or a young doggy friend to keep him company and play with. Due to his timid nature around new people he won't do well in a home with lots of people coming and going in the household.
** An owner who will continue to train him to build his confidence and continue with the great progress he has made in care - classes where he can socialize and learn new things would be of great benefit to him.
** Being an active boy and part Kelpie, he needs good daily exercise and mental activity and an active home that is willing to involve him in family activities.
** A large, fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore. He would do well in a home with acreage.
** Maximillian loves to be with his family so needs to be allowed inside the home when he wishes and to sleep inside at night.
Maximillian could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 8yrs who can recognize his signals and give him space when needed especially when first settling into his new home.
If Maximillian sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
