About Zina
Zina is curious hound. She loves her life in foster care and is up for any adventure. She is very human centred, loves her humans.
She has a gentle nature. It’s remarkable that after all she has been though she is so loving and gentle and great to be around.
Zina is a small chocolate brown hound with sweetest little face. She is extra cuddly and her fur is soft and full. She has half a tail - the reason becomes obvious when you see her being happy – going on walk or getting food - serious happy-tail that required an aputation. She does her little dances around you which are very funny, the tail is working over time and her face lights up.
Zina’s little face sometimes looks like she is in deep thought about solving all world problems but then she sees something interesting and she is light and funny again.
Zina a a smart cookie too. She is learning basic signals and walks well on lead.
Zina is great communicator and indicates when she needs to go out, it’s just the matter of picking up the signals (nudging against the human, slightly panting) and taking her out. Sometimes she doesn't go out on her own even when doors are open, so it is important that she is either taken out for a walk a few times a day or encouraged to go in the backyard to do the business.
Zina is keen to play with a ball so will be easily trained to retrieve, another good way for her to get little energy out. Squeaky toys are a must. She loves them.
Zina is very interested in other dogs and can focus on them and even pull a bit. She is not difficult to handle - neither is she too strong but she will benefit from further training. She is really good when passing by barking dogs, including small ones. She is happy to meet most polite most dogs on her walks. She doesn’t appreciate the jumpy happy ones.
Zina is in foster care with another greyhound and is happy to spend time home alone in the company of her fosters sister for a few hours but is untested being truly alone.
Zina has Panus in both eyes. This is a common condition in several dog breeds and easily managed with daily eye drops. Possibly because this condition was not treated before coming into our care Zina has also some retinal atrophy in her left eye.
Zina is an easy grey, happy to be an only dog or as a sibling with a suitable hound. She will require a yard.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
