About Dusty
DUSTY is a very handsome, purebred male Border Collie. Our vet estimates that he was born on or around March 2021. He is offered for rehoming without pedigree papers.
Let's start with Dusty's backstory. He was surrendered to us with his gorgeous black and white brother and littermate, Goliath, because the two of them simply couldn't get on. It was a case of sibling rivalry. Neither had been desexed - a problem now remedied - and they were competing for "top dog" status.
Dusty is everything you'd want in a Border Collie. Super sweet, highly intelligent, energetic and very trainable, he adores human company and will make a delightful and devoted family companion, provided you can meet his needs for physical exercise and mental stimulation.
Smart as new paint, with Dusty, you'll need to be prepared for a dog that can outsmart you from time to time. But if you want a loving, brainy dog that will keep you active and on your toes, Dusty's the boy for you.
He's good with children, though probably a little too exuberant for the under 8's. With a proper introduction, he's dog-friendly, as long as the dog is not his brother, Goliath. He is untested with cats.
Preference will be given to a home where someone is around most of the time. He's definitely not suited to full-time workers and a life in the backyard. He needs space to run and play. He would be fine as an only dog, provided he has plenty of human company. If he is to live with another dog, we think he'd probably be more compatible with a female of similar size and temperament.
Prior BC breed experience will be highly regarded. Secure fencing is essential.

His adoption fee is $975 and he has just been desexed, vaccinated and wormed. He is also microchipped.
Dusty is available for interstate adoption and virtual meet and greets may be offered to approved applicants.
Medical notes
Dusty came into care with a slightly swollen front foot, but was experiencing no lameness and little pain. X-rays revealed a fracture of an inner phalanx (toe bone). A splint was applied and his activity level limited accordingly. Our veterinarian says the prognosis is very good.
Adoption details
Dogs:
(1) The first step is to complete the online adoption application form at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ Please answer all questions and include photos of your yard and fencing.
(2) All applications will be considered by our Adoption Team, following which a "meet and greet" will be offered to the top-ranking applicant.
(3) The "meet and greet" is held in Warwick, Queensland. If successful, the applicant may adopt the dog and take him or her home the same day.
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
