About Celeste
Celeste is 110% greyhound – she sleeps for 8 hours during the day with a burst of energy first thing in the morning and in the afternoon and then again after dinner.
When she’s up she’s up, and enjoys a few laps around her zoomie track in the backyard, and enjoys a game or five of ‘come get me’, where she rolls over and wants you to chase her. She will eventually let you win and surrender after a play wrestle.
When Celeste first came into foster care, she was very anxious and wouldn’t even come out of the bathroom. Her foster carers have shown great patience and worked on building her confidence with small gradual steps. She enjoyed the security of crate training and now has the run of the house and yard. Celeste was also reluctant to leave the house finding the outside world too scary. Again with patience she has learnt to look forward to her walks and explore the world. She still prefers quieter neighbourhoods that are not too busy.
Celeste would like to say hello to every dog she meets. She has happily met all shapes and sizes. When she has the opportunity to play with another dog she tends to be submissive.
Celeste will need owners that are prepared to keep her schedules of walks and play. If she doesn’t get enough stimulation of left home alone too long, Celeste may look for things to chew. She has also found her voice so will tell you to, ‘get up’, ‘feed me’, ‘play with me’ and ‘play with me more’.
Celeste does sleep soundly and has shown dome sleep-startle so isn’t suited to a home with small children.
Celeste is very affectionate and friendly with all humans. She will get excited and can be a bit licky. She is an expert cuddler. If you’re snuggling with her on the couch, over the hour she will slowly readjust her position to get closer to you. Every 10 minutes you will find her adjust herself closer, and closer. On one occasion she readjusted her self so close that her snout was in her foster carer’s armpit, and in the classic relaxed breath out, she gave her arm pit a ‘strawberry’.
Celeste is a darling girl suited to a owner with some dog experience to provide her the confidence and patience to help her continue to learn and thrive. She will beed a yard for her zoomies. Celeste can also join a family with another suitable dog or be an only dog. Celeste must have a quieter suburban or rural home.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
