About Bert & Bloom ~ Mastiff X (Admin Hold 2/6/22)
PLEASE NOTE: Dog Rescue Newcastle provide individual listings specific to each foster dog that comes through our doors. Each listing outlines the specific requirements, and home that we are looking for. Should you submit an application OR inquiry and NOT receive a response within 5 business days (Monday-Friday), please understand that you have not met the specific requirements of the foster carer and will not be proceeding to the next stage. Please do not be disheartened or discouraged if you do not receive a reply, this simply means you were not a suitable match at this time. Dog Rescue Newcastle reserve the right to not reply to unsuitable applicants and will not tolerate bullying, intimidation or harassment of our volunteers.
Bert - 1yo Brindle and White Bull Arab x and Bloom approx 2yo Fawn Mastiff x. These lovers came into care in heartbreaking condition and are a bonded pair, so will be rehomed together.
Despite their hardships, Bert and Bloom are super friendly and warm up to strangers quickly.
Initially they would almost choose pats and affection over food, they just really crave love after spending time in a state of neglect. In care they have picked up some basic commands very easily like “sit, bed, come here”.
Bert and Bloom have been fed separately due to their condition. They started with 5 small meals a day and are now at 3 regular sized meals per day. In their forever home Bert and Bloom would like breakfast and dinner so that they know they will never have to go hungry again. When they have found the odd bone in the yard, they have never shown any aggression towards each other, they just wait until the other leaves the bone.
Bert is super friendly towards other dogs that he has been introduced to in care, whereas Bloom takes a little longer to warm up to other dogs; but now loves her carers big dog.
Bert and Bloom currently sleep outside undercover and cope well with that as they have each other’s company. They would love and need a large yard to play in to keep themselves occupied and you entertained. Bert is very athletic and requires 6ft fencing.
Together they are very strong on lead but one on one they are extremely treat orientated and are learning to slow down. Bert and Blooms fur-ever family will need to have an active lifestyle and understand that they will need exercise and mental stimulation. They will also need to be prepared to put the effort in in training them separately on a lead, especially if public outings will be their norm. Bert and Bloom travel quietly in the car and love going on adventures. Despite their fun-loving energy and newfound zest for life, Bert and Bloom will chill and take themselves off for a rest or come in for a pat.
As they can get very energetic and are still learning not to jump when playing they would be best suited to a family with kids above 12. Bert and Bloom have been around horses and have not been a problem. They have not been tested with cats or pocket pets.
