About Hamish
Handsome Hamish is a 4-year-old greyhound who wants to know if you might be keeping his perfect forever couch warm.
Hamish has been in care with Amazing Greys for about three months, and in that time has adjusted to his new life very well. He’s very comfy inside the home and loves people, especially his foster carer who he follows around like a long noodle-shaped shadow. As a general rule, Hamish likes to be in the room where all the people-action is.
Hamish is a fiend for treats (who isn’t?!) and has a particular fondness for bread and cooked eggs. Consider this your warning to keep the carbs out of reach, but Hamish will love you forever if he is included in Sunday brekky. He also adores fluffy pillows, and will make a beeline for the human bed if allowed.
Hamish has learnt a few basic cues since being in foster care, and his new home will continue with his basic training. Amazing Greys has lots of fun resources to help with this.
When Hamish first arrived in care, he found traffic and outdoor noises/smells very overwhelming. All this stimulation would often initiate a ‘Big Freeze’. But as Hamish has got to know his new neighbourhood and built trust with his foster carer, he hardly ever freezes anymore, and walkies have become a source of joy! That said, Hamish’s ideal home will (a) be in a quieter suburb or street; (b) have enough outdoor space for “zoomies” and toileting; and (c) be with some kind and patient humans who will take introductions to his new environment slowly.
Hamish is an only dog in his foster home and is happy being the sole occupant of his human’s adoration. Hamish prefers to have lots of human company, although he has been okay when left home alone for the occasional work-day. Hamish has not had a lot of opportunity to socialise with other dogs but is friendly and happy when meeting them on walks. He could potentially go to a home with a large or medium breed dog, pending introductions.
In summary, Hamish’s ideal home looks something like this:
• Enough outdoor space for zoomies and toileting
• Humans who are home more often than not
• Kind and patient people to help build his confidence on walks in a new neighbourhood
• No small dogs, cats, or “pocket pets”
