About Sadie
Beautiful Sadie is now seeking her forever home. She is Whippet / German Pointer mix that weighs ~22 kilos. and is 2 years old
Sadie
Sadie is the most loving and affectionate young girl. She loves being around her humans and she LOVES running. Sadie has the speed of a Whippet and the endurance of a Pointer, so she requires a fair bit of exercise. The only thing Sadie loves more than her humans is other dogs. She loves every single dog out there and does not discriminate based on gender, size, or breed. Her favourite thing in the whole world is to run off lead with other dogs in the park or at the footy field. It gives her a chance to run at full speed, and she needs to do that regularly to tire out and be satisfied. After a good exercise she loves to relax in the sun or on the sofa, depending on the weather.
Obedience
Sadie is a well behaved girl, if exercised enough. The only time she misbehaves is if she has not been allowed to run enough, or if her humans decide to have a lay-in and decide to wake up past 7am. She gets restless in the mornings and may find something to chew on if she has access. Her foster family has her sleeping downstairs in the living room, so this could easily be managed by introducing a crate or similar. This behaviour is likely due to her young age and probably will pass soon enough.
Sadie has only recently started to show an interest in trick training and has so far learnt âsitâ, âdownâ and âheelâ, however, it can be a hit or miss depending on her motivation at the time. Sadie is always walking on the lead for the same reason. If you are out in open fields/forests or similar, she can be walked off lead, but she requires more training before being trusted among cars in suburbia. The hunter dog in her loves sniffing and if she smells something interesting, she may follow that trail for a bit before coming back. She loves her family and wants to be around them, but she loves to run off a few hundred metres and then come back.
Sadie will sometimes bark or cry when you leave her. Her foster family is working on this and she is making great progress. Sadie wants to do the right thing and will listen when you tell her to stop, even when itâs done through a camera.
Sadie is young and still has a lot to learn, so her future family must be ready to invest time into training her. She wants to do well and her heart is always in the right place, but sometimes she canât stop herself and the puppy in her shines through.
Enrichment
Sadie has the most positive and amazing energy. She rarely barks at home. Never when she is inside. When she is in the backyard she will sometimes bark when she hears other dogs, but she always listen when you tell her to stop. Sometimes knocking on the window and giving her a firm look is enough to make her stop.
Sadie needs a lot of exercise to be content, and it needs to be a mix of running and walking. Ideally she would go running every morning. If she is allowed to run freely and play with other dogs for an hour or so, or taken for a longer run in the morning, she will be happy to just relax at home and/or the garden until dinner time. She would then be okay with just a 30-40 min walk at night time, but she always prefers to at least be allowed to do a few sprints. The next morning she will be ready to do it all over again.
Sadie loves to dig and will do so if left outside unsupervised. She loves to take her bones and dig a little hole and hide them. She also loves to play by herself and will take her soft toys and throw them up in the air and run and get them, combined with some really speedy zoomies.
If left alone during the day, she prefers to be outside if the weather is good. Inside she can get bored after a while and she might then find ways to entertain herself, which usually includes chewing on something.
Sadie is 50% hunter dog and she needs plenty of exercise and stimulation to be content and happy. This is a non-negotiable with her and she will remind you if you forget. She would love to live with a family that takes her on hikes, letâs her come horse riding, hunting or similar. Her endurance is great and she can run for long distances without getting tired.
Sleeping
Sadie has been sleeping either in the laundry or in the living room. She definitely prefers to sleep on the sofa in the living room, but wonât make a big fuss about sleeping in the laundry, as long as she has something comfy to lay on. She might cry for a few minutes but then she falls asleep. She does not make a sound all night and will sleep until 7am pretty much on the dot. After that she must be let outside or she will find something to chew on if she has access.
Sadie is young but is fully toilet trained and wonât have any accidents as long as she is allowed out at 7am. If left longer, she can struggle to hold it in. Her foster family takes her for a short walk around 9-10pm every night, and then let her outside at 7am.
Socialisation
Sadie has met many dogs during her time in foster care, and it is safe to say she loves them all. Due to her high energy, she can sometimes be overwhelming to other dogs, but Sadie is intuitive and listens well to them when they tell her off. Sadie wants to play with every dog she meets and her excitement can sometimes get the better off her when she walks past other dogs while on the lead. She can struggle to contain herself and will sometimes jump up and down and bark if not allowed to say hi. Due to Sadieâs love for other dogs, we believe that she would be best suited in a home with at least one other dog, and preferably a high energy dog that could keep up with her. Sadieâs foster family has no other pets and no children, but we are confident that she would love a home with both. Sadie is the friendliest dog you will ever meet and she does not have any aggression in her. However, to her size and high energy, she would probably be best suited with children that are around 10 and above. Due to Sadieâs young age, she loves to play and sometimes she forgets that she is not allowed to jump on people or play âbiteâ like puppies do, therefore it would be good if the children are a bit older and can tell her off when she becomes too much.
Sadie is also good with cats
Sadie is a social butterfly and loves going on adventures with her family. She loves company and does not enjoy being left alone. Saying that, her foster family usually has to leave her for a few hours every day and she accepts it. She will cry for a little bit but then find something to do or go to sleep. We definitely think she would handle it better if she had another dog with her.
Hygiene
Sadie loves both bathing and swimming and is very easy to bath as long as the water isnât too cold. She also loves to swim if given the chance.
Travel/car
Sadie loves the car and is always on her best behaviour while travelling. Every time we walk past our car, Sadie will stop for a second and look at the car, and then us, as to say she wants to go for a ride. Sadie is also very well behaved when left in the car alone and does not cry or bark.
Ideal home
We feel as though the most ideal home for Sadie will be a family with children (10+ y/o) and at least one other dog. Her ideal family would live on a fair bit of land, to allow for her to run and play during the day.
Sadie would prefer to be sleeping indoors as she gets cold quite easily, and want
