About Flick
Meet Flick, the adorable brown-eyed and lovable companion! This stunning girl is a two-year-old mastiff cross possible staffy, with the most gorgeous brindle coat and loving personality. This beautiful girl is extremely people-loving and is eager to find her perfect owner ready for many cuddles.
Flick is around 35 kilos and 2-1/2 years
Flick is a medium sized girl, and although she is still quite young, we have seen that she is quite a couch potato and absolutely loves to sleep, especially in the sun. She has small bursts of energy throughout the day and will love a chew on her toys and the occasional bone. Flick is extremely loyal and friendly, she is always crawling onto the laps of her foster family and will often fall asleep in 2 seconds, so get ready to hear the most adorable little snores youâve ever heard!
Obedience: Flick is able to sit, stay and come when you ask her to; mainly when a treat is involved. She will patiently sit and wait for her food to be ready each night and morning without any whines or barks at all. She is a patient and often a very quiet girl. However, as often typical of a mastiff, she will need more training in her listening abilities, so a strong and firm owner that she looks up to and listens to is ideal and you will have a very obedient dog; however, this will need to be worked on.
Enrichment: Flick loves to chew on her toys, Kongâs, occasional bones, dental sticks and pigsâ ears and luckily this girl has shown no destructive qualities and has left her foster familyâs yard in great shape. She will happily sit and chew on her toys and she becomes so happy when she receives a new toy or bone that her entire body wiggles with happiness. This gorgeous girl has been doing great as an only dog but still requires a lot of enrichment and toys to distract her.
Sleeping: Flick absolutely loves a nap at any time of the day, she is quite a low energy dog, and will sleep inside in her own designated room of the house from around 10pm-7:30am each night without a single sound from her. Some nights, she will also sleep outside in the kennel if itâs a warm spring night and will happily sleep there without a fuss. She knows that she can only go do her business on the grass outside and will alert her foster family when she needs to relieve herself if sheâs inside. Flick will often become tired after 7pm and during these early night hours, she loves a long cuddle with her foster family on the couch and will fall asleep on their laps.
Socialisation: during the time spent with her foster family, Flick has encountered multiple strangers, all of which she absolutely loved and warmed up to straight away with great friendliness. However, we quickly came to realise that she is not a fan of other dogs just yet, and when she sees them on her walks she does go through an array of emotions â she will often freeze and stare at them, and then start barking and lunging. We believe she just hasnât been properly socialised with dogs. During these walks, she will need a very strong owner to hold her back. Itâs very important to note, however, that we temp tested her with a medium sized girl dog of similar breed, and in a slow and controlled environment, she was very polite and was able to stand next to the temp test dog without any fuss or reaction and interacted with her with curiosity. Because of this, we thoroughly believe that Flick has lots of potential to openly interact with dogs. However, to her future owner/s, we recommend these things: either walk Flick in a very quiet area where there are often no dogs around or consult a professional trainer (if you wish to overcome these issues) as many will willingly assist with these issues to help Flick on her walks when she sees other dogs. Apart from this, she loves people and will openly receive a pat from them.
Hygiene: Flick has a short, smooth coat and does shed quite a bit. However, a brush every couple of days reduces this and leaves her with a beautiful shine. Due to her coat, she will only need to be washed once or twice a month. She is in great condition with her current weight and coat and is very healthy.
Travel/Car: Flick is very quiet in the car; however, she does get a bit stressed at first so will need to gradually be more used to being in the car if her future owners wish to take her around. She will often lay down and sit still when in the car. Many comfy blankets and toys will help her feel better.
Ideal home: we would absolutely love to see Flick go to a home that will love her, treat her as part of the family, be patient with her gradual exposure to various parts of the outside world and show her that there is more to life than her backyard. Currently, Flick is living with a family of 4 adults, and she has absolutely loved each of them. We absolutely need her primary owner to be VERY strong and this will need to be an important criteria when considering her if you believe she will often be walking past other dogs until she becomes more familiar. We would love Flick to be an inside outside dog as she does love to explore the backyard and is very happy outside. However, as an only dog, being inside with the family will make her the happiest dog she can be. She is such an incredibly loyal, beautiful dog, any person who meets her will fall in love with her beautiful brown eyes. A possible tradie or a family with children aged over 12 years old, or someone with excellent experience with strong breeds is ideal for Flick. This beautiful girl is patiently waiting for her forever home, and whoever her future owner is will be incredibly lucky to have her by their side.
