Profile and needs in a home
Bear is a 6-month-old Boxer x Staffy who is an affectionate, attentive boy that is sure to steal your heart with one glance and has the personality to go with his looks.
We are looking for adopters that are looking for a dog to be truly part of the part of the family, access inside, daily adventures, exercise, mental stimulation, continued supervised socialisation with other dogs, and of course ongoing force-free training.
As you will read below Bear is off to a good start but there is always more to learn. Bear is very food-driven and his eyes light up at the sight of food. He sits to say "please" and will do so whilst waiting for a treat or his meal.
Bear currently shares a foster home with another large breed doggo whom he wrestles and snoozes alongside, and we prefer that he go to a home with another younger friendly dog who is up for a good game of chase and who doesn't mind a cuddle buddy as he has always lived with another dog.
His foster carer has been working on leaving Bear for short periods of time and he is able to stay at home with his fur foster brother for up to 3 hours at a time and they happily snooze the time away. Whilst Bear is working on staying at home for longer periods of time he would not be suited to a family that is away for very long periods (more than 6 hours at a time) and adopters must understand that their home is a new environment and may take a little while to being comfortable being left in the new environment.
He is a big snuggle bug and loves to join you on the couch for a cuddle or a nap so a home where this will be permitted is essential and of course, as with all of our animals must be permitted access inside at all times and sleep inside in a warm area of a night.
Bear needs a decent daily outing to keep his mind and body active and our carer tells us what a good boy he is on walks, sitting nicely to allow his carer to put his harness on, sits when asked before crossing the road, does not pull on the leash and greets other calm dogs.
Bear loves a good snooze and is happy to laze around all day as long as he gets at least one walk-in and some playtime/training time/mental stimulation. His new owner must of course be prepared for some large breed puppy antics and set him up to succeed by providing lots of toys, appropriate chew things, exercise, and mental stimulation.
He's calm and gentle and has had no issues meeting new people or exploring new places.
He has lived with children previously so would be suited to a home with children over the age of approximately 10 years old
Bear is a very special pupstar and he really deserves the very best home. If his foster carer was in a position to make him a foster fail, she absolutely would!
If you would like to meet Bear please send us as much information as possible on yourself and the home you are able to provide including, your other dog, and other pets if any, family members, lifestyle, exercise, mental stimulation and outings you will provide, how often Bear would be alone, where he will have access in the home, where Bear would go if you went away and could not take him with you, ability to cover vet expenses and any other information you wish to provide so we can see if you and Bear are a good match.
