About Raven
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Raven
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: Ridgeback x Kelpie x Cattle Dog
BREED TRAITS:
Rhodesian Ridgeback - smart but stubborn with a dignified aloofness to strangers. Strong willed so would need an experienced owner. Sensitive and do not do well when left alone for long periods. Affectionate and gentle with family and will defend their home if necessary. If bored and lonely can be destructive or wander so strong, high fencing is needed. Not a dog for novice owners.
Kelpie - high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. Get bored easily if not worked, so training is a must. Very social with adults and children and other dogs.
Cattle Dog - Affectionate, devoted and protective of family but can be wary of strangers. Very, very high energy and highly intelligent - they love to have a job and if bored/not exercised enough can be destructive. Bred to herd by nipping so is mouthy and may nip cattle, children, pets, cars, anything that moves. They have a strong prey drive with other small animals unless reared with them. Not for novice owners.
ASSETS: A little shy and unsure initially, but once she's comfortable in your company she's easy going, affectionate, devoted, eager to please, friendly, obedient, sensitive, active, sweet and playful! She has a ton of love to give to her new family once she settles in with them.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Raven loves to play frisbee, chase balls and spend time cuddling with her carer. She loves to learn new tricks too and picks things up very easily with the help of yummy treats!
ENDEARING FEATURES: She's incredibly sweet and loving and adores cuddles and being close to you. She also has amazing eyes and gazes at her carer with complete adoration.
OTHER ANIMALS: She gets on well with other friendly dogs once she's comfortable with them and could live with one after gentle introduction. She shows interest in cats but not in an aggressive way so could possibly live with a dog savvy cat that will stand its ground and show who's boss - gentle, slow and supervised introduction is an absolute necessity.
GENERAL INFO: Raven walks nicely on the lead and is housetrained. She currently sleeps in a crate at night. She barks at strangers and other animals and can be destructive when bored. Favourite things to chew at the moment are shoes and chairs, so she will need lots of stimulating toys to keep her occupied if left alone for any period of time. Her command training is coming along in leaps and bounds and she knows lots of commands and tricks, including, sit, down, play dead, high five, touch palms, come and leave.
ESSENTIALS for Raven:
** An active, loving home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis (or can take her with them) or she has a young doggy friend to keep her company and play with. Due to her timid nature around new people she won't do well in a home with lots of people coming and going.
** An owner who will continue to train her and build on the great progress she has made in care - classes where she can socialize and learn new things would be of great benefit to her.
** Being an active girl, she needs good daily exercise and mental activity so an active home that is willing to involve her in family activities.
** Raven needs a large. fenced, secure yard with grass or she could live on a rural property where she has supervision.
** Raven loves to be with her family so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night.
Raven could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 12yrs who can recognize her signals and give her space when needed - remembering that she needs to trust in her own time.
If Raven sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
