About Wally

Breed: Cavoodle
Colour: Gold Sable
Weight: 8kg
Child friendly: No
Cat friendly: No
Dog friendly: To be an only dog
Wally is a special case and you need to read his entire profile….
Good Points - he is fully house trained. Not a chewer, digger or nuisance yapper. He is easy to harness for daily walk. Very gentle taking treats and not food aggressive. Quick learner.
The Not So Good - Wally came into care as he suffered increasing anxiety at his previous home due to a health situation in the household. Elderly owners and he wasn’t socialised with people and other animals.
He is wary of strangers. Doesn’t like being touched unexpectedly and can react with a nip.
He is definitely not suitable for children - either in residence or visiting grandchildren.
We have resisted medicating him and have been working on desensitisation methods and a regular routine.
Setting firm boundaries is an absolute must as he previously ruled the roost. He had no obedience, slept on the owner’s bed and became possessive of the entire couch.
Wally is now crate trained and sleeps in a soft sided carrier in the bedroom. He holds all night and doesn’t whine or misbehave.
We have established a new pecking order and Wally has been demoted to a doggy bed in the lounge room. He has taken this in his stride and now isn’t interested about owning the couch.
His general obedience and walking on leash has greatly improved in a short amount of time. Commands learnt:-
“no”
”out”
“wait” to exit a door behind his human or when on lead.
“okay” general release word.
“sit” for harness, pats, evening meal and any time treats are involved….
He’s not to be trusted off lead - no recall, easily spooked and no road sense.
We’ve been teaching Wally how to be a dog... He can be quite cautious so we’ve been exposing him to lots of new sounds and experiences. His forever family needs to be aware that he can still be snappy if approached when he’s scared, uncomfortable or feeling cornered.
He was a fussy eater and originally wouldn’t eat dry or canned wet dog food of any description! Diet is now Royal Canin ‘Relax Care’ dry food mixed with a little wet food. He enjoys all natural dehydrated treats. He’s discovered he has teeth and likes his bones, deer antler and larger chews.
Needs his people to be home most of the time. Patience and continued training will be required to settle him into his new environment.
If you are looking for a small breed dog to share your bed and cuddle on the couch - then Wally is NOT for you.
Once Wally trusts he really is a lovely dog and comes looking for pats and belly rubs. He has the potential to become a great mate and companion as he likes to shadow his human.
