About Riff
Riff is a scruffy delight!
This boy is a cuddly and affectionate teddy bear. Riff loves people and getting attention from them which makes him a real companion. His favourite must be belly rubs but he is equally happy to snooze by your feet while you work.
Riff is still young and playful by nature and gets easily excited by the prospect of fun and games like tug of war. He quite enjoys his toys and chewing on things like goat horns. Once playtime is over he does settle quite quickly and is content to snooze on his bed on the floor. It is just adorable when his littletongue sticks out while he's asleep!
He was originally in care with another young and playful dog and they got along famously- they would play all day if you let them. Riff came from far western NSW and in coming into care with us, he found a leash and collar quite restrictive and became easily stressed when other dogs would bark at him on leash. Unfortunately, due to a few incidents with unknown dogs lunging at him under cafe chairs, Riff started to bark at other dogs on leash when he was uncertain. This was only on leash and he still really enjoyed playing with dogs off leash. We sent him to board and train straight away to avoid this behaviour consolidating. The trainer confirmed it was just a lack of confidence and now he is doing great. We still believe he would do better in a quiet area, but would be open to busier areas (not inner city) if the handler has the right experience and is dedicated to continue his training and exposure.
Riff is a moderately active medium sized dog (currently 19kg) so will require daily exercise and playtime. Riff is a smart dog who thrives off training as it not only gives him human attention but also mental stimulation. He naturally wants to be obedient, is a fast learner and is food motivated. Lucky for his new owners, his basic obedience is fantastic after having a stay with the trainers! While he stayed at the carers home he was toilet trained and crate trained where he slept throughout the night without a peep. Riff also travels very well in the car so would be a great dog to go on adventures with.
We are looking for an experienced home for Riff that will be able to continue to develop his confidence out and about. He is not suited for inner city living as it will be too overwhelming for him and he will require a home with a yard he can run around in so no units please. Riff would be happy as an only dog with people around more often than not (at least until he’s completely settled in), but would also do well with another dog in the house. Any resident dogs should be at least a little older and already fully trained. Riff has not been cat or pocket pet tested. He has been trained to ignore poultry and livestock at the trainers.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
