About Whisper
Whisper is a giant Deaf puppy with a heart of gold.
This amazingly clever girl is seeking a very special home
Whisper is an American Bulldog with the sweetest temperament
When Whisper arrived with her foster family, it was evident that in her 7 months of life, this 30kg puppy hadn't had many opportunities to learn how a dog should behave.
She's a loving and playful girl who has no concept of her own size and can sometimes be accidentally rough, but would never intentionally hurt a fly. We have never seen even a hint of aggression from her.
We think she may have been an outside dog at her previous home, as she was nervous of pretty much everything when she first came inside - ceiling fans, television, shadows, reflections... but is now very comfortable in side
She got over this very quickly and will now happily make herself at home on our bed, the couch, or even the coffee table (this last one will obviously need work!)
Surprisingly given her size, she doesn't pull on the lead at all. While out walking, she will say a gentle hello to some people if she feels safe.
She has only had one accident inside - but she isn't vocal about asking to go out, you need to be aware of her body language.
We have been working on teaching her hand signals to communicate - She understands 'sit', 'drop' and 'shake' and also understands 'come', however often stubbornly ignores this one - especially if she is on the bed and knows you want her to go outside.
Whisper isn't very food driven and rarely eats her whole dinner all in one sitting but will do practically anything though for a treat. This means she is relatively easy to train, provided you can get her attention.
She is cat and dog friendly - she loves to play with other dogs but can sometimes be a bit too rough. As she doesn't hear when they growl, this could be a problem with certain dogs.
Both cats she is currently living with love to give her a smooch, and she doesn't understand why they sometimes suddenly get their claws out.
This big beautiful girl will need a lot of ongoing training but she is smart, inquisitive and eager to learn. She will thrive being an inside dog - while inside with her humans, she loves to be a part of things and will keep glued to your side.
But she is also happy to amuse herself alone outside when required - while not overly destructive, many toys would be suggested as she has helped herself to an outside cushion as well as tried her hand at pruning the Japanese Maple.
She will bark at the door when she wants to come in - but as soon as she sees you, she acts like she expects to be in trouble for barking. She also has a throaty voice that she uses when she is happy/excited.
Her foster mom within 7 days had taught her hand signals to sit drop and shake and she walks beautifully on the lead.
When walking in busy areas her new family will need to be very mindful that she cannot hear so things coming up behind her might startle her
Whisper is a naturally nervous girl - she can get scared meeting new people for the first time and we are currently working on strategies to improve this. Once she is comfortable with you she is all smooches and cuddles but she can be wary of new people especially if they are all visually excitable as this can overwhelm her
Whisper's ideal forever home will be one where someone is around a lot of the time and is able to be patient with her while she builds her confidence. She would be suited to being an only dog, but could also live with the right (patient but playful) canine sibling.
