About Barney
Barney! What a boy! This extremely handsome boxer x ridgeback is up for adoption. At only 12 months old, and 17kgs, this boy has to be one of the most affectionate pooches around! Barney loves people and wants cuddles all the time, so he is looking for a loving family who are happy to include him in the home, and don’t mind sharing the couch and their lap.
Barney has a very sweet-nature and is happy go lucky with everything he does. He adores dogs, currently living with 3 other large dogs who he loves to play tug of war with and bounce around in games of chase and wrestle. He has met lots of dogs in foster care and is really happy to meet anyone who is keen to meet him! So far Barney is ticking lots of boxes!

What else makes Barney such a rockstar?
This fun boy is fully toilet trained, he sleeps all night long without a peep, he is crate trained, he can sit and lay down on command, he loves his food and can’t wait to start adolescent training classes to meet new dogs and learn new skills!
Barney is a medium energy level dog, so will need a good walk each day to keep him physically fit and allow him to get to know the big wide world. Before coming into care, Barneys life was very insular, unable to move around much with no exposure to the world or new or fun things. His life didn’t involve going on adventures or being around people who loved him. So he is so excited to get this opportunity now.
In the month he has been in care, he has completely stolen the hearts of everyone who has met him. His fun, goofy personality along with his sooky cuddly affectionate ways, makes Barney such a fantastic companion to share the home with. If you’re lucky, you’ll also get to have some big long chats with Barney, as on the occasion he will talk to you with some hilarious vocals.
We would recommend he join a family with kids that are taller than him, purely for his bouncy play style and the risk of knocking a child over, so kids over the age of 7 are best suited who are confident and dog savvy.
Barney adores the company of dogs so we think he would suit a home with another fun loving playful pooch. For the right home however, he may suit being an only dog if he was included in a lot of activities with an active family who is home more often than not.
Barney is located in the Newcastle area and is available to meet his family now. His adoption fee is $600 and he hopes he doesn’t have to wait too long.
