About Buddy ~ 2yr Old Wolfhound X(On trial 2/7/22)
Mohawk Buddy is a desexed male wolfhound-cross who is (nearly) 2 years old, and will be incredibly loyal, fun and affectionate with the important person/people in his life. He is all personality, with a one-of-a- kind Mohawk hair-strip, an amazing play style, and the ability to look at you with “those eyes” (soooo hard to say no!!!).
Mohawk Buddy loves to spend time with you playing and going for runs or walks. He is also very good at relaxing on the couch (with or without you), and finding a sunny spot outside by himself. Buddy’s idea of heaven is when he gets to play fetch with you - he chases the ball, returns it for you to throw, does a quick spin (because you are never quick enough!), and then sprints after the ball again. When he needs a rest he lies near his water bowl where he alternately dunks his ball and noisily slurps away for a minute or two, recuperating. Then it’s back over to you for another lot of fetching.
Mohawk Buddy is very good at only playing with balls and his own toys (or maybe a pebble when desperate!) - he never takes shoes or anything else that is not his toy. He enjoys chewing on his toys too (he is a champion deconstructor!) so all his toys should be put away at the end of a play session. He is fine when other dogs join in (never aggressive or possessive) although I’m not sure he even knows they are there.
Mohawk Buddy has a beautiful nature. He is toilet trained, can use a doggy door, and sleeps on his own bed in the lounge room. He is great with food and the most gentle dog I have ever come across when accepting food treats. He understands sit, stay (for a little while), play, back-up, and ‘waaalllking’. He is good walking with a Halti and running with a harness. (He is very patient when I walk him - occasionally turning to me to tell me ‘with those eyes’ that I’m just too slow!)
Buddy is currently learning “finish” (end of play time), and “manners” (not to push past in doorways, gates etc). When we go on our walks Buddy is fine meeting new people. When we are at home, however, he is usually a little apprehensive meeting males. Sometimes he barks at them but he is never aggressive. Building up Buddy’s confidence will be a long term commitment. Mohawk Buddy will also need to improve his manners when he is on the lead and meets other dogs. He is fine for a short time but then often barks at them - once again, showing no aggression.
As said before Buddy has a beautiful, gentle nature, but on the odd occasion he forgets that he is 30kg and gets over excited (he’s not yet 2 years old). He has been getting much better with training and patience over the last couple of weeks.
Mohawk Buddy would love to adopt an active single friend, couple or family (with children over 14) who are experienced with larger dogs, and enjoy having any size dog living inside their home. He would take you running as often as you want, and would also love to play fetch with you for short bursts whenever you are free. Buddy would often like to hang out with you when you are home - whether that be watching TV (although not Question Time), helping you prepare dinner (for a little while), or wandering around the garden with you (you never know when you may find a ball!). Once he feels at home and is confident in his new
environment, Buddy also enjoys spending some time by himself, mostly lying in the sun.
Mohawk Buddy has not spent much time with other dogs so I don’t know how he would be living with another dog. He knows the dog nextdoor (a gentle little female boxer) and has had many ‘play dates’ (although he doesn’t know how dogs play). He is sometimes a bit overbearing with her, but stops as soon as I tell him. He is happy for her play fetch with
us.
Mohawk Buddy would need someone who knows how to help him be more confident around strangers (even some males who he has known for a while).
