Super special bonded pair
This is why we do what we do. Rescue is all about saving lives and enhancing welfare and these two stunning kitties are a prime example of what can be achieved.
There's a sad story here but spoiler alert - these two 6 month olds are now seriously stunning cats. And they have an intimate, adoring bond with each other.
They will make someone very very happy ❤️
Risvi and her brother Hassan have now been in our care for 4 months - they were extremely sick kittens who had such a bad case of cat flu that we considered euthanasia for Hassan as he was emaciated, unable to eat on his own and had a chest so infected he sounded like he was drowning.
We gave him a 48 hour period to make improvement or we were going to relieve him of his suffering.
Thankfully and as a testament to his tenacious nature, he did show incremental improvements in that time. After a period of syringe feeding (he wouldn't voluntarily eat anything) and lots of medication he finally gained strength.
Risvi was never quite as sick, but her eyes were so irritated and infected that they would bleed anytime we tried to clean them and apply drops and ointments. Anytime she started to get better she would relapse. It felt like we were going around in circles for weeks.
She honestly looked like a creature from a horror film with her bleeding eyes, poor darling.
This was all caused by feline herpes virus, a common cause of upper respiratory infection aka cat flu.
Finally, these gorgeous kids had a specialist appointment with our friend Dr Ziggy Chester yesterday and they've been cleared for adoption.
Risvi has made an excellent recovery. She has one tiny spot of scarring on her right eye but this is barely noticeable and is causing no concerns.
As you can see, Hassan's eyes suffered permanent damage. But, he has no pain or discomfort and he does have some vision from both eyes.
They're both likely to be 'carriers' of the herpes virus. They may experience flare ups of respiratory symptoms in times of stress (cold/flu type symptoms)
It's extremely unlikely that they will ever be as sick as they were as small kittens - but their family will need to be committed to loving them no matter what and seeking treatment for them if they need it
Risvi and Hassan must be strictly indoors-only. Both due to their pale, sunburn prone noses as well as Hassan's vision challenges.
He is an extremely energetic, playful boy who loves to race around and chase toys - even if he misses them sometimes 😊 He does sometimes bump into things and fall from surfaces so there's no way he could keep himself safe outside.
Risvi is more affectionate and smoochy than her brother. She loves to wind around your legs rubbing your ankles and she has a heart warming purr.
After the amount of medicating and force feeding these kitties received, they can be a little uncomfortable with people getting right in their face. Hassan takes a little time to adjust to new surroundings. They are very attached and quite reliant on each other.
They don't particularly like being picked up and cuddled and would be best suited to a family with kids who are teenage or older.
Cat-friendly dogs would be fine.
They need to be only cats, unless you have another herpes carrier kitty at home.
They are a really gorgeous and very special pair.
It's been a long journey - now that they're finally ready for adoption we cannot wait to see them in their purr-fect home
