About Salem. Child & dog friendly!
Salem is a confident, outgoing and easy cat with alot of personality! Whether it's curling up on your lap for a snuggle or racing around after toys, he has it all!
He has no worries about little humans, he's currently living with kids of 4-8 years old who are obsessed with him. He is very gentle with them and would be completely at ease with children of all age groups.
He also loves dogs! His foster home has a Great Dane and Salem just walks all over him. He is very confident with dogs however does not like cats one bit so needs to be the only kitty in the house.
Being such a social boy he'll be happiest if someone in the family works from home so he can help you get your work done!
He likes to know what's going on at all times and has a very curious nature. The best kind of toys for him are the puzzle type that you put treats in and they have to figure out how to get them out.
He's an adventurous guy and would escape in a heartbeat if a door was left open which is a serious concern as he would definitely roam and his life would be at risk. We highly recommend an enclosure attached to the house which will give him the stimulation he needs to not need to try to get out. We can provide affordable examples of small or large enclosures that we currently use ourselves, if helpful.
Don't miss out on this blo0dy awesome cat, he's one hell of a dude! 😃🐈😍
We
💕 PLEASE NOTE OUR INDOOR CAT POLICY
Most of our cats were either born, or lived for some time, on the street and have only ever known the outside world to be a source of fear and survival. So although they've been rehabilitated and are in most ways domesticated by the time they're ready for adoption, they WILL return to fear behaviour if ever let outside. Hence we have an indoor only policy (or indoor with access to an enclosure or fully netted area) unless clearly stated in an individual cat's profile. Please consider this before making an enquiry. Thankyou <3
Adoption details
💕 OUR ADOPTION PROCESS INCLUDES:
1. Initial enquiry about available animal.
2. We reply to your enquiry with either an invitation to complete an easy online form to expand on the info you gave in your enquiry, OR a polite rejection if your home/work/lifestyle is not going to be suitable for the animal.
3. On completion of our form we contact you again with an invitation to either meet the animal, OR a polite rejection if your home/work/lifestyle is not going to be suitable.
4. Meet and greet held with animal's foster carer and in the case of dogs, our Dog's Coordinator.
5. If meet and greet is successful we provide a detailed adoption contract which is concise and complete picture of your new pet's health, history and adoption details, including:
- our adoption terms and conditions which include our Lifetime Guarantee to take the animal back at any stage in it's future that it may need us again.
- the animal's adoption fee and our bank details. We request payment at time of adoption.
- the animal's medical history including desex, microchip, vaccination details as well as certificates from these from the vet.
- microchip transfer instructions.
- the animal's current food. We also send some of this home with the dog for transitioning onto any new brands.
- any health or behaviour issues. These would have already been discussed prior to adoption.
💕 ABOUT OUR RESCUE GROUP:
We are a registered charity, foster care network and private shelter, focusing on the rescue, rehab and rehoming of cats who've never had experience with humans, and of dogs who may not have been given a chance by others. You can support us by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page or further options at the bottom of this section. Thankyou!
💕 ABOUT OUR WORK WITH DOGS:
We take in dogs from community surrenders, owned arranged euthanasia's which vets have intervened on, and greyhounds retired from or not suitable for racing. Most of our dogs are with us for extended periods to ensure we know them really well before putting them up for adoption, and have been assessed by professional dog trainers if not worked with extensively. We provide full discretion with adopters about dogs' health and behaviour and ongoing support to integrate adopted dogs into new homes, families and lifestyles. The success and longevity of our dogs' adoptions is very important to us.
💕 ABOUT OUR WORK WITH CATS:
We run a donation funded shelter in semi-rural Avalon, that was previously used for dog breeding. When we took ownership of the property, our hard working volunteers spent many months transforming the building into a bright and colourful environment featuring 7 large, fully enclosed pens capable of housing 8 wild-born cats. We take in full cat colonies, pregnant and nursing mothers, ophan kittens, FIV positive cats, and sick or injured cats. Cats are humanely trapped after being identified as un-owned; we don't take in domesticated cats and have extensive processes to ensure cats trapped are true strays as opposed to owned. We don't give cats deadlines to be socialised by or they'll be euthanised, we provide sanctuary for them for as long as they need.
💕 CAN YOU HELP US?
As a small team without government or corporate funding, our services are in constant demand and our resources stretched. You can donate directly to the animal in this profile by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page, or contact us if you'd like to sponsor a street cat's rehab and housing which usually takes one year minimum but more often longer.
