About Sandy
Sandy thrives on human affection. Food is fine but it's the love from her humans that she craves. Sandy’s foster Mum says she is the most affectionate grey she has ever met. She is always up for cuddles and also loves to nudge humans for attention. Sandy will be your constant buddy.
Sandy is in foster care with a younger male grey with who she gets along well, but she would also be fine as a solo dog. Previously used as a breeding dog, Sandy is loving life and the freedom to get all the attention for herself.
Sandy has it all sorted. Toilet trained, does stairs, not fazed by travelling on a train or catching a ride on an elevator.
Sandy will snooze for much of the day but does enjoy her playtime with her various toys.
Sandy gets very excited getting ready for her walks. She loves her walks and has been getting two a day. Out and about Sandy has been fine with all the hounds she has met so far but has not had a lot of interactions with small dogs. She is a dream walking on lead and is comfortable with traffic. Just be prepared to stop to say hello to all the humans.
Sandy could easily settle into most homes. She has been happy to be home alone for a few hours.
This elegant girl has somehow earned the name Nugget from her foster mum. Maybe it’s her golden fawn colour. Sandy is certainly a treasure..

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
