About Lilly
We would like to introduce Lilly, a pedigree Smooth Fox Terrier, (date of birth 03.07.2019). Her pedigree name is Monstarr Magpie, but she is de-sexed so no babies for this lovely girl. We are looking at re-homing this delightful girl in our local Port Macquarie area in the first instance.
Some points of interest regarding Lilly: She is a little timid when she meets anyone new but will settle down after a few days with patience. She must be permitted to sleep in the house, craves human company and loves a playful dog. She is house-trained as long as she has access to outside, so 24 hour indoor/outdoor access is necessary. No cats please and no children as she has not been subject to either. The yard must be secure with good, solid fencing and gates (preferably colourbond).
Lilly does not cope well with being left alone at home for long periods of time (even if she has the company of another dog). She thrives on her human company and is such a loving soul. Would suit a retiree or couple prepared to take her for two half hour walks every day. She definitely needs to have another medium-sized dog for company and to play games with and requires a large enough grassed yard that would allow her to tear around in and expend some of her abundant energy.
She has now had some lead training; is not used to being walked out on our busy streets, so we are working on that with her. She needs reassuring that she will be okay and in time her confidence will grow; she gets spooked easily by loud car noises or motor bikes, so needs a firm hold.
*Lilly has had a dental with our local vet and all her vaccinations are up to date. She has had Proheart SR12 heartworm vaccination and Bravecto tick and flea treatment.
What are the characteristics of a Smooth Fox Terrier? The smooth fox terrier is friendly, energetic and outgoing. These dogs are wonderful companions and never tire of all sorts of games. The coat of the smooth fox terrier is easy to keep looking neat. A daily brushing will keep it clean and prevent excessive shedding in the house; however, they do drop some hair inside, so you need to be aware of that. A rubber grooming mitt or stiff brush will remove any dead and loose hair reducing the amount of hair that is shed. The short coat does not take long to dry after a bath.
In general the Smooth is a friendly, devoted and affectionate dog with lots of personality. They can be protective if they feel a member of their family is in danger or being threatened. They have to be socialised from an early age especially with cats and any other household pets. Whilst the breed is suitable for hot, sunny climates, they will also thrive in cool ones.
The Smooth is an intelligent terrier but can be a bit stubborn like most terriers. Training is relatively easy but owners must be consistent and firm. This breed should have lots of exercise, they are full of energy and like nothing better than a long walk. They do well in agility and fly ball games. They should always be kept on a lead especially near traffic as they do have a tendency to chase cats, only because they love to play chasing games. Smooth Fox Terriers are renowned for their good health and longevity, often reaching an advanced age.
Lilly is available for adoption now, so if you think you would be the right owner for her, please send us an enquiry.

MEDICAL NOTES: Grade 1-2 dental disease – required dentistry

.......................
Midcoast Dog Rescue Inc. is trying to expand its foster carer network so that we can help more dogs in need. This is a very rewarding experience and suits a variety of people. Some people, for whatever reason, are unable to make a permanent commitment to a dog, a commitment which can last for up to 15 years. Others use the fostering experience as an interim measure before committing to permanently owning a dog. If you think you could be interested in becoming a foster carer, either on a long-term or a short-term basis, and would like more information please contact Nigel on 6584 4992 or Wendy on 6584 7027.
